Apple: We already see privacy as a fundamental human right

Anyone knows what higher levels at Apple think about Zcash? Because needless to say, we are both fundamentally in alignment in that we clearly both see privacy as a fundamental human right. Very few entities share that specific alignment.

It feels like there’s an angle to pursue here. Directly with Apple, I struggle to see it. But a few partnerships with the right long game in mind, there’s potential.

Apple says privacy, but what they mean is really privacy and compliance. Zcash has both baked in, which is certainly unique still. Circle with some kind of zUSD on Zcash would be a pillar. Another pillar would be a reputable exchange that could work with us to implement AML at the protocol level as initially envisioned, that is through leveraging viewing keys and such mechanisms. And yet another pillar would be some kind of debit card service Gnosis, that lets us spend our zUSD anywhere.

Now I see this may worry the die hard cypherpunk so let me go on a slight tangeant: there are two ways to see Zcash, and they can coexist:

  1. Private yet electronic fiat money: the equivalent of your regular cash. It’s mostly anonymous, but can have KYC/AML checks like you would have with regular cash sometimes. I think Apple is very much in this arena.

  2. Cypherpunk cash / gold: USD aside, the world is a wild place where having digital and private money can be very useful. This is where we’ll need bridges to other blockchain realms such as Ethereum. This is more the arena of hardened Android phones so don’t expect Apple over here.
