Amazing research thank you for investing the time into this! We also maintain a Blockbook explorer for Zcash, I have found it to be the most reliable. We are working towards running a Blockbook also for testnet. Thank you to everyone for the nice words and adding more information about this topic. I see for testnet.zcashexplorer.app that the displayed block count is lagging behind what is shown on testnet-zebra.zcashexplorer.app - but only by a few thousand blocks. I’ll keep an eye on that. I also heard of a rather large reorg happening recently on testnet but didn’t dig on that yet. @emersonian I’ll look at the issue you’re describing, and check out the new link. I plan to update the initial post in this thread in the next day or two, and will continue to do so for a while as well, so long as I can edit it. ---

For those following, I’ve updated (edited) the guide above. Here are my remarks: - @emersonian 's mentioned bugs are present for certain transactions across the Nighthawk-based explorers. Because this seems to be exceptional, these explorers mostly work; the bug may be because of the presence of an `OP_RETURN` in transactions. I’ve promoted all of @Cacho 's testnet explorers, which now have synced. - However, the testnet explorers I examined seem to be tracking different chains, perhaps based on which full-node they are following, with the zebrad-backed explorers being about 7000 blocks ahead of the zcashd-backed explorers. Are there more like this one? What do they observe? - I didn’t follow the .onion links above, but in one case there is a single address linked across multiple explorer sites. Perhaps rephrase to “Previously ZCG funded, now crowdfunded” I think our last grant payment was in March 2025 range. We currently receive sufficient donations to our published addresses to cover server costs, I campaign pretty hard in private conversations to get certain people to contribute. Zec.rocks also has a strong no IP logging policy emphasized in other threads but we should probably pull that into a formal privacy policy that we host. ---

Hey, as routescan dot io, we’re thinking of building a professionally-maintained zcash explorer it seems like current explorers are poorly maintained or lack good UX or a complete feature set. my raw idea is that we’d build a block explorer with blocks, txs (both shielded and non-shielded) support, but also cross-chain transfer through the most used bridges - we’re actually working on NEAR Intents cross-tx support for Zcash (we already have it to bitcoin, an example may be found at routescan dot io/blockchain/cross-transactions?protocol=nearIntent&dstchainfilter=bitcoin). I don’t know what’s the best way to gauge interest to understand if it makes sense for us to apply for a grant, because: 1. there’s a crowded selection already 2. we would require at least 250,000$, though in milestones, to build the thing 3. it would take us a few months (3-6) to build a working product Any feedback is highly appreciated! ---

Hey thanks a lot. True. You can search by block number tho. It’s one enhancement i’m working on is better filters/searching (adding blockhashes is part of it). Have you tried the memo decryption? It’s super cool and works fully on the frontend, so perfectly private. Trying to figure out how i can make it efficient for the whole wallet history cause right now it’s limited. I’m glad you enjoy it, and feedback is always welcome to improve it! ---

Yes, the goal is really to make a nice UI/UX and easy to understand for people with a lower technical knowledge. The memo decoder is 100% client-side using WebAssembly (Rust). Users enter their Unified Full Viewing Key (UFVK) and either a single transaction ID or scan a time period (last 1h, 6h, 24h, 7d). The WASM module fetches raw transaction data from our API, parses Orchard actions. The viewing key never leaves the browser, and all decryption happens locally.
