When someone asks “Which Zcash wallet should I use?”, the answer depends on what they need. Here are a few questions worth asking before choosing:
- Shielded or transparent? Does the wallet support shielded transactions? Supporting ZEC doesn’t automatically mean payments are private.
- Open source? Is the code publicly available? That allows inspection, but doesn’t guarantee security by itself.
- Backup and recovery? Are the instructions clear enough to follow if you lose your phone?
- Other assets? Do you need ZEC only, or also assets such as BTC and USDT? For USDT, check the exact network the wallet supports.
- Help when needed? Can you easily find official documentation and support?
For transparency, I’m with Gem Wallet in BD and support. Gem is open source and supports multiple assets, but its current Zcash support is transparent-only. If shielded ZEC is your priority, that’s an important distinction when choosing.
What do you wish someone had explained before you chose your first Zcash wallet?
