Donut Shop Owners Don't Need Zcash

@Batuhan

I also love privacy itself very much, and I respect the culture around it. But I believe the problem you raised should be approached from a more fundamental direction. Basically, this is a financial problem. What is happening here is simply a vision of including Zcash’s privacy in the financial layer. If we do not first deal with and respect the real challenges of finance, the “privacy” code this community wants will also have a hard time moving forward. I really hope this community will move beyond that “dream” and accept reality. You are talking about the value of an ideal. I do not see much value in something that is difficult for the public to agree on or understand. And if we look at ZEC from the perspective of payments, the results so far seem to show that people around the world agree with my view. It also feels like only this community is denying that “cold reality.” In some ways, maybe I simply do not have the same spirit of resistance that people like you have. I am looking at this community from the perspective of a strict realist. Instead of your own perspective, think from the perspective of ordinary people around the world. Ask yourself whether using ZEC for payments today is really attractive to them. Once again, I understand the value of privacy. At the same time, I also know that, from the public’s point of view, the value I see in ZEC is not very attractive.

Executive summary

Basically, this is a financial problem VS Privacy is more than just a technology—it’s a culture

You recognize reality, but you still believe we should build the culture. I look at reality itself first. For me, the first question is, “Why aren’t people using it?” I do not think, “The bigger problem is that people still do not understand the value of privacy in the digital world.” As I said before, ZEC is basically about finance, so I believe the biggest problem is that we must first solve the fundamental financial problems. That is the right order. Privacy is the default, and Zcash has already spent the last ten years focusing on this technology. Because of that, I think it is no longer efficient to keep putting so much effort into it. Zcash has spent ten years focused on privacy, yet there is still no sign that the adoption problem is being solved. So in my opinion, only the minimum amount of resources should be given to privacy technology, and the rest should be used to solve financial problems. Time has already shown us what the real problem is. That is the realistic approach.

Privacy is the default, not the destination.

Default detail radbro

  1. Privacy is not something that is gained when switching to Zcash, it is something that’s lost when accepting transparent crypto.
  2. Besides Zcash transaction fees being lower than the cost of accepting credit cards, the transaction costs are for the sender.

Ergo by accepting Zcash, the donut shop saves on credit card processing fees without sacrificing the privacy of either party.

interesting topic and conversation so far. @the_zero

from your perspective of what money is and the government’s involvement,i can agree that ZEC or any cryptocurrency for that matter isn’t money,

The narrative that BTC brought is hypnosis for people who lack a sense of reality among all humanity, and it is a kind of scam. A “currency” without central control is something to laugh at from the perspective of people who have a strong sense of reality. If you look at it from the perspective of the state and the government, all of this discussion is easy to understand. Even if the people overthrow the government, the “currency” system for controlling humanity will not disappear. A new currency system will be created again by another government to control greedy humans.

@Zebraman

I think you are focusing on a technical advantage while ignoring the bigger system.

From the donut shop’s point of view, the priorities are simple. Do more customers use it? Is it easy to accept? Will it increase sales? Is accounting easy?

For most businesses, privacy is not a top priority.

A business does not accept a payment method because it has lower fees or better privacy. It accepts a payment method because customers already use it, suppliers accept it, taxes can be paid with it, and the government recognizes it.

Money is not simply a payment tool. It is also a system for managing an economy and a society.

Some do, and that matters. Freedom should be prioritized.

@dismad

Order, which is also expressed through rules and control, and freedom are not opposites. True freedom is built on order.

The music created in the arts expresses their free spirit. But the code of those free sounds is based on well-ordered musical notes.

Im not sure I can agree with this. Control is an illusion but I probably wont change your mind. :heart_suit:

The leaves that seem to grow in a messy and random way may look as if they grow in chaos, but they do not. That is what order and freedom really are. I do not pay attention to the word games of philosophers.

or mathematicians, physicists, psychiatrists, Discordian popes, political scientists, entrepreneurs and economists it seems.
At some point you’re playing word Solitaire.

It seems you’re not quite grasping the difference between chaos and disorder yet. You may want to click some links.

@Zebraman

I do not like word games. I am here for a serious discussion between intelligent beings, not sarcastic remarks. If the discussion turns into sarcasm instead of addressing the actual point, there is no reason for me to continue it.

Labeling the discussion as a “word game” from the moment you’re unfamiliar with the terms used, is the closest thing to a word game that’s going on here. Get off your high horse and educate yourself.

@Zebraman

You are making personal attacks instead of giving real arguments. Please avoid comments that put the other person down. They do not help move the discussion forward.

You are projecting onto a mirror.
Putting you down is not my goal, but it is the way off that high horse.

The phrases “Get off your high horse” and “educate yourself” are commonly understood in English as personal attacks. Please understand that using those kinds of remarks is considered very rude.

I’d call them unveiled appropriate critiques from a fellow intelligent being.

@Zebraman I would like to point out that constructive criticism and personal attacks are not the same thing.
