I would like an invite to the CAP.
Iām interested in joining the CAP.
Hi, I am interested in joining the CAP. I have been a Zcash holder and member of the community since mid 2017. Most recently, I participated in the Jan 2020 community poll on ZIP 1014, and have attended most of the hangouts related to Zcash governance and the establishment of the MGRC. I have familiarized myself with the MGRC candidates, and would like the opportunity to vote in the upcoming election on Sep 4. Is it possible to receive an invitation?
Edit: I am still interested in receiving an invite, if possible. Have all current CAP members issued their invites? Thanks! @antonie
So I inadvertently removed myself from the CAP by actively choosing not to participate last year so also require an invite. It wasnāt clear to me at the time by choosing to abstain I would remove myself from the CAP in-perpetuity

Edit: Invite received, thanks @kek
I would have given you my invite but i used it on someone in the same situation.
@antonie Is there anything that can be done about this, so we can open the panel to more new people with our invites?
Appreciate that. I wonder, given the aim is to increase participation of the CAP, whatās the rationale for excluding active community members who were previously on the panel, and thus previously passed the vetting process? Wouldnāt it make more sense to allow those to participate again, but not allow them to invite a new member? This, as you point out, would also afford more opportunities for additional use of other invites.
That is a really good compromise.
I really think their was extenuating circumstances for that vote. It was very contentious/political with assurances that it didnāt matter if you voted on the forum or as the CGP.
So people decided to vote on the forum. It might be worth digging out the threads or some posts from around that time. - I would do this, but I really donāt have the time at the moment.
I cant see a way the system could be gamed, youād have to have voted on the forum and previously been on the CGP. (it was the CGP then wasnāt it? or am i imagining that? when did it change to CAP?)
I really hope they can look into this. It cant really be that controversial. and tbf I dont mind if the people who this applies to can invite new people. - they are all trusted members of the community, who were all very active in the dev fund process and in more of the previous process that shaped zcash than me. I joined the CGP at that vote.
I dont think it would even apply to that many people (2 that i know of). I cant really think who else to tag. it would have been josh c or sonyaā¦
I would reject being automatically added to the CAP as an ECC employee, and I would be pretty uncomfortable with a blanket add especially if the purpose is just to increase invites.
I hear you, though, that the invite system might need improvement or replacement in order to get all of the high quality applicants we see on-boarded. This is a good problem to have!
I have always explicitly refrained from joining the CAP in order to improve the independence of the decisions it makes from ECC. I believe the independence between these orgs is one of, if not the most important feature of Zcash.
Meanwhile: ECC has no policy restricting employees from participating in the CAP or other Zcash community. Iām comfortable with that. I think thereās also benefit to having a community with strong bonds enmeshed throughout the institutions. Also, some ECC employees are just showing up to do a job and donāt necessarily want to participate in the community, and thatās totally fine and we shouldnāt foist them with unwanted obligations. Letās keep the community full of those who are productive, engaged, and motivated.
Yes, thereās some grey area between independence of institutions versus the connectedness of the community. I think thereās a healthy balance, and Iām pretty happy that weāre somewhere near that.
(ps: If you want/donāt-want ECC to have more influence on MGRC, then vote for/against the sole ECC candidate: @alchemydc. If youāre not on the CAP, maybe make your case here, or privately to CAP members, or anonymously on one of Zcashās anonymous platforms.)
The formation and maintenance of the CAP is something that the Foundation and the ECC take seriously. It is not a unilateral decision. When it was decided to expand the CAP, the following was taken into consideration: make the CAP more representative of the community by carefully expanding, taking into account widespread input, including from people who are far outside the set of potential-new-CAP-members. We also considered the proximity to the MGRC vote and found a way to expand the Panel in a diligent manner.
The Foundation takes seriously its role to improve and maintain the CAP and looks forward to feedback from the community.
Is that yes or no?
This current expansion of the CAP will not go beyond the one invite per current CAP member. Thank you for understanding.
When will the expanded CAP be finalized?
