Grant Application - Zcash Africa Privacy Engineering Residency Pilot — Web3Bridge

GitHub application: #442

Web3Bridge is requesting $49,000 to run a pilot developer pipeline for African engineers into the Zcash ecosystem: open online discovery and technical foundation stages, a Privacy Engineering Academy, a 2-week physical residency at the Web3Bridge Garage in Nigeria, and 3 months of post-residency builder support. The flagship build challenge is Privacy-Preserving Payments for Africa — mobile-money interoperability, remittances, merchant payments, freelancer payments, and privacy-preserving aid disbursement.

Target outcomes: 150+ applicants, 40 Academy participants, 25 residency participants, 10–15 builder teams, 3–5 “ecosystem-ready” open-source projects, and 10+ developers still contributing at the 90-day mark.

Full details, budget, mentor roster, and milestone breakdown are in the linked GitHub issue.

We’d especially welcome input from Zcash Nigeria and ZecHub — this pilot is designed to complement, not duplicate, your existing community and education work, and we’d like to confirm that alignment publicly here before ZCG reviews the application. Any feedback from either team, or the wider community, is very welcome.

Thank you for submitting your proposal. After careful consideration by the ZCG and a period for community comments on the forum, the committee has decided not to advance this proposal.

We genuinely appreciate the work and dedication you put into your application and hope you’ll continue to participate and contribute to the Zcash community. Minutes

Thank you to the ZCG committee for reviewing our application and for the detailed feedback

We’ve read through the committee’s remarks and would like to appeal the decision. The concerns about our track record and team information are fair, and we have the evidence to address them. We’d like the chance to provide that clarity, better detail the results we have achieved with developer training in the continent, along with community input from Zcash Nigeria and ZecHub, so the committee can reassess with the full picture.

Do let us know the best way to proceed, whether that’s a formal appeal, a resubmission, or a conversation with the committee. We’re happy to follow whichever process you prefer.

Thank you again for your time.
