Happy Friday! Here’s the latest roundup from the land of ZEC.

Zcash updates

- Our teams continue to ramp up efforts related to Network Upgrade 5.
- Keep an eye on our [twitter page](https://twitter.com/ElectricCoinCo) for more updates regarding [Cypherpunk Zero](https://twitter.com/ElectricCoinCo/status/1483917083645677568).
- Zcash [was featured](https://www.coindesk.com/layer2/privacyweek/2022/01/26/what-is-zcash-the-privacy-coin-explained/) as part of CoinDesk’s privacy week.
- ZEC is [now available](https://twitter.com/EdgeWallet/status/1484175389664632832) in Edge on iOS.

DevSecOps

- Continued cleanup on cloud service platforms to achieve cost optimizations and resource efficiencies
- Improved coordination and communication on recruitment process
- Architecture review and high-level planning for infrastructure updates (CI/CD tooling upgrade, monitoring and alerting platform refresh)
- Addressed tactical solution for Tekton log retainment
- Initial group review for IT Service Management platform

Core

- Resolved remaining specification issues for ZIPs [32](https://github.com/zcash/zips/pull/576), [316](https://github.com/zcash/zips/pull/576), and [244](https://github.com/zcash/zips/pull/587).
  - Made the corresponding updates to test vectors and implementations.

- Implemented [several](https://github.com/zcash/zcash/pull/5300) [new](https://github.com/zcash/zcash/pull/5500) zcashd RPC methods supporting Unified Addresses (z\_listunifiedreceivers, z\_getaddressforaccount, z\_getnewaccount, z\_getbalanceforaccount, z\_getbalanceforaddress)
- Preparations for supporting UAs in other RPC methods.
- Switch to using the Rust transaction builder in zcashd.
- [Disable Sprout address generation](https://github.com/zcash/zcash/pull/5474) in the Zcashd wallet from Canopy activation height.
- Added full validation for UAs and UFVKs on [parsing](https://github.com/zcash/zcash/pull/5484).
- Actively working with Mary Maller on the Halo 2 security proof, hopeful we can wrap that up in the upcoming sprint.

  - Rust-less build for iOS - (for review)
  - Fresh checkpoints

  - Fixed some Android SDK concurrency problems

As the Taliban continues to control Afghanistan, some organizations are [sending cryptocurrency](https://www.businessinsider.com/afghanistan-women-turn-to-cryptocurrency-to-feed-their-families-2022-1) as emergency aid to civilians suffering. Amid turmoil surrounding the Turkish lira, many Turks are [turning to cryptocurrency](https://www.ft.com/content/02194361-a5b9-4bf0-9147-f36ba7759cf1). Officials in Kazakhstan are [clamping down](https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-01-25/kazakhstan-unplugged-bitcoin-miners-before-blackout-hit-region?mc_cid=264036d9e6&mc_eid=17d18120d9) on the crypto industry. And a new web3 community called [BFF](https://www.mybff.xyz/) aims to welcome women and nonbinary people into the crypto space…and maybe even Goop it up a bit.
