So to make it explicit: If I check into some random hotel with my legal ID when traveling, it’s not one simple Google search away that I hold crypto. But I’m not living under the illusion that a motivated attacker wouldn’t be able to dox me.
Okay.
That was my concern. State actors are not my concern for you. This thread is about kidnappings.
I truly have great respect for you, what you stand for, and what you do. I just don’t want anything bad to happen to you or anyone in our community. Maybe I shouldn’t be concerned, and if you feel confident in your methods then good, it was only my own perspective that I have shared.
Thank you, I appreciate it. I share your general concerns about kidnappings, it’s a rising threat. One should never feel perfectly confident in ones own methods.
What I was trying to say was that due to the fact that I chose to get involved with the reputation build like described it came with a certain set of risk parameters that I wouldn’t have chosen if it’ would be for a purely kidnapping minimization strategy.
These people (the founder Alena is ex Trezor CEO) are working on a kidnapping notification system: https://glok.me/
In Bitcoin (even more so than in Zcash) people are becoming more and more aware of the physical threats, which is a good thing.
All those systems sort of rely on disclosing fear. Fear is an indicator of something to lose.
Best protection is Zcash, a humble life and a shut mouth.
Well said. Best to stay in the shielded pool.
@outgoing.doze, Zcash community honeypot/canary.
Yes very nasty:
And that was before the implementation of DAC8 in EU, now already effective since January 1st.
Much more crypto data will flow to tax offices, between them with informations exchanges and leak absolutely everywhere from there.
I expect that by mid to end of 2027, european crypto users will realize the extent of the disaster and try to scramble in things like Zcash but it will be already too late. Once the genie is out of the bottle, you can’t put it back in.
