There is not enough distribution of ZEC yet to allow ASIC and manufactures are few (Bitmain concentration; don’t assume any good intention of third parties when it comes to money, they are probably selling their used hardware to recoup cost because a fork can bankrupt them). If Zcash does not fork it will play second fiddle to Monero no matter how much better their privacy technology is. Zooko is not that smart (stupid) and does not appear to understand the world and thinks figures and technology is what will bring success, Zcash market is thin and is being controlled at the moment by a few big whales who have being using ASIC for Zcash for well over 6-months now, since middle of last year
A preliminary POW change should be rolled into Overwinter update with urgency (sapling will not do much for coin at the moment). If one manufacturer controls a coin it next to useless. Maybe in the future when there are more players in ASIC development with transparency ASIC will be welcome not taking left overs from Bitmain.
