Let’s talk about ASIC mining

“only a few with lower operational costs will still be profitable.”

And that is your vision off Zcash…only few .

With GPU ATI 7970 is still profitable even is 6 years old so anyone can mine.

U just use community for your little get rich scheme…now you want to get rid off it so that few stays only you and Bitmain.

With regards to accessibility and ease of participation in a network, there are 15,000 people right now using their web browser to mine Monero for Unicef…

Are you sure this is a legit site and not just a scam? I mean only to mention Unicef is not enough:

I mean signs like:

  • absolutly no WHOIS and Registar info, no contact, no nothing
  • absolutly no reference on the UNICEF Australia page to this donation page
  • no reference to the “charity wallet”, contact info, whatever,

For me these are 3 big red flags. Of course it can be valid, but as well a site infecting your PC and/or supporting just a monero bot net, not?

And it’s a comment from local couner-conspirator? So that you don’t believe rumours(about Bitmain) and prefer creating own.
What about proofs: Unicef has already used such donation method but with GPUs on Ethereum.
Proof from “The Guardian”:

Interesting you find it questionable to ask a given project to be legit or not. From where i’am that’s the most normal thing, to ask if it’s legit or not bevor donating…

And here is also proof of this campaign by NASDAQ:

Fine, seems legit. Someone can only advice them to put their WHOIS registar info as UNICEF as well as contact info on the site to make it clear to everybody it is indeed a UNICEF campaign…

And coming back to the start of this discussion:
Mining with general purpose hardware makes such things possible. And it’s not only about this particular charity. I’ve mensioned Ethereum-based initiative: and it is how mining can be spreaded all over the world and make PoW great again. I have a lot of friends started mining from their gaming PCs. Some of them enlarged their PCs to rigs, as well as someones not. And such miners are perfect for decentralisation. Surely, the don’t hodl too much, but they don’t actually massive sell, cashing out once per month or so. One of them has even bought SSD for his PC on the Newegg paing with bitcoins(surely, he would prefer paying with Zcash mined on his 980 Ti). ASICs will ruin such possibilities. There will be much less new adobters trying spending self-mined currency on shops instead of just cashing out. I don’t want to tell, that “free” shopping is essential for spreading. However, it’s gorgeos, that in such way people discover new ways of payment. E.g he may just go to localbitcoins and buy some there instead of paying with credit card, that seemed the perfect pay method before he tried crypto. ASIC-network as well as PoS don’t give so many possibilities to get inside this world. So that it’s one of the reasons for me to resist ASICs. I would not able to promote crypto to such a crowd, if there won’t be such “initial bonus”. It’s something like marketing, but it works. For some people in charity, in personal profit for others.

We all understand that z9 mini is the first one.

We all understand that there will be not “mini” version, with ~33.000 sols at ~850 watts.

We all understand why they are making this operation slow. Only to squeeze as much money as possible.

Basically:
1 - those who bought z9 mini from first batch - will receive highest profits, and if diff will stay approx the same, they will break even in two months. about 60 days.

2 - here comes the surprise for all you. After 60 days, the second z9 mini batch will be sold. In much larger quantities. At least first buyers returned their investment, but after second batch start shipping, those thousands of miners…

3 - when second round of z9 mini’s sold, bitmain will already have z9 not mini version plugged into the network, in great quantities…

4 - …

On second-hand ASIC market, profit comes from selling ASICS, not running them.

Only few first people will be able to make really nice profits for some considerable, but not very long time.

All who is not in the first batch - true sheep, who will be slaughtered.

All who hope to survive with GPU on zcash - just imagine when full version of z9 comes out - 33.000 sols at around 850 watts. Yeah, go on, compete with this.

And again. ZCASH devs just gave the whole thing to Bitmain, without any resistance.

Zcash ASIC resistance iz ZERO.
All those words count for nothing.

personally i did not buy z9 mini, because i can use calculator.

with an asic you invest trusting your strategy, your choice of algo to Bitmain.

GPU is a completely different story.

Sad, that even here seems to be a lot of people who already bought z9, who consider mining with asics and gpus are basically the same.

it is not, it is completely different strategy, completely. Nothing in common.

Huh. I always thought they were called blinders.

blind·ers
ˈblīndərz/Submit
noun
NORTH AMERICAN
a pair of small screens attached to a horse’s bridle to prevent it seeing sideways and behind; blinkers.
something that prevents someone from gaining a full understanding of a situation.

plural noun: blinkers
1.
BRITISH
a pair of small leather screens attached to a horse’s bridle to prevent it seeing sideways and behind and being startled.

but blinders sounds perfect as well

Well it looks like we are both right. Regional Languages haha

You can easily identify that by walls of text being posted on every occasion in replies to points that already had been discussed.

and they have to come quickly after every argument which they have no logical answer to it .
did you see the last one , it was hilarious .
usual argument debunked a thousand time before but repetition is a weapon , "asic high hash gives more security ".
answer zcash is double the security of dash which is 2 years older and more expensive . and some complementary list of tons of asic coins that can be hijacked with less than cost of happy meal

replies by tons of distracting unrelated post with the same answer as the debunked argument asic is more secure .

it can’t get any more hilarious than that .

I agree with you on almost every point. Just want to clarify I never said “all coins that declared ASIC resistance”, just pointed out the “only” thing these coins have in common is that all three did. In the case of Zen Cash I believe they set the date for July unless I’m mistaken…although they seem to be clamoring wishing it was sooner by the sentiment I see on some forums.

If Different Dev teams that have experienced the 51% aren’t collaborating and sharing notes on what happened, how, and how they mitigated (and the results) then they really need to start doing so. Trying to hide it doesn’t help anyone. In the case of verge that was more of a result of a very new Dev who didn’t take advise from more seasoned programmers…and bad things happened. I doubt he that is a mistake he will ever make again though. Was a really harsh lesson.

I saw that the Zen Devs posted a blog on give a rough lay down on what they did, when they did it, and the fact they stayed in contact with the affected exchange(s). It’s not super in detail, but it’s a good start.

Just continue to dream on, only Ethereum and Ehtereum Classic left as secure Coins. As of today with Asics on the net that provide additionally hashrate to the Zcash network (if you like it or not) it’s mostly the reason why it’s more secure than bevor some months…

But i agree with you. It’s so funny people stil saying the GPU coins are the most safe when every little toddler can see it’s not the case… :joy::rofl: I’am laughing a lot as well … Blinkers/Blinders seem to work well :grinning:

see . people didn’t even get their asics yet and argument now is the asics are the ones who gave the zcash the security .
even though zcash hash rate is little less than month ago .
didn’t I say dark comedy .
