I would say more the community betrayed the community.
Now that many have bought ASIC would you expect the zcash co cutting off ASIC knowing the millions just invested by the community?
GPU’s can still be mined on other coins so: hard feeling yes, but lost investment no.
ASIC getting cut off now would be: hard feelings and lost investment.
The ASIC open design path might end up obsolete or not as useful, but, I believe it’s the only worthy direction to invest time on ATM for “fighting” agaisnt ASIC manufactuers.
Jumping in this thread repeatedly insisting on an easy update to the parameters so everything will be magically “FIXED” is not constructive and annoying.
This thread has lost long ago its character of a discussion and has by now exactly 0 value.
All we see now is name calling, offending, cheapen, malign people of other opinions, just that, nothing less, nothing more.
It’s a “cry me a river” childish topic now, mostly the reason nobody even reads it anymore by the zcash people in charge. Nearly nothing is anymore backed up with documents, researches, facts, numbers, nothing. Just throwing in aggresive personal opinions as only valid ones. When you get to such point than you know it has no more any value and is no more a discussion, again easy as that.
I’am pretty sure that the devs, zcash people in charge, Zvash panel election panel voters, are well aware of that allready and have long bevor seen the valuable information provided through numbers, facts, papers, documents, researches and even valid logical arguments, nobody is reading this childish “i didn’t get what i want, now i cry a river” topic anymore.
How is insisting on something that was promise by Zooco and others and i posted their words from years ago annoying?
You had a simple job to do and you did not do it for 2.5 years and you receive millions off $ every year.
I will bee that “annoying” and i will repost their words because you cant just lie everyone and then act nothing happened…this is not a game…all this money iz Zcash someone invested from their pockets… i know people who invest their hard working money in Zcash and its obvious now that they were lied.
For me it does not hurt me about mining …like i sad i mine ETH but i also was lied and kept Zacsh coin for so many time and payed electricity from my pocket…if i knew that they want centralised china coin i would sell it long time ago while zcash worth something.
If crypto was regulated they would face criminal charges now.
I dont really understand the presentation. In my understanding its new algo with most likely dedicated hardware. As now no coin used it yet but most likely new kind of chipset is going to be used. Am I understand this correcly?
Cleary stated that bitmain is not good (in term of decentralization) but aim for new dedicated hardware.
What do you think @Autotunafish “(even if it doesn’t mean anything it’s better than what this has been)”
Should have listened to your community Zooko. Hey at least you are “mooning” - nethash and difficulty are going to the moon, and you are left with a bunch of churn and burn miners… < $100 before you know it.
I’ve been mining z cash since 2017 January, I have a farm setup on an agricultural land, according to me the ASICS produce a lot of heat and or hot air to be honest and i channelized that air through ducts for a greenhouse effect, if we see it from a business point of view ASICS are a very big plus we cant ignore that, but when is comes to the whole community i think that might be a problem, in the long run crypto’s here to stay so we should promote any thing that could help us digitize the financial system (just an opinion)
I am certain that far more people bought GPUs to mine Zcash than bought ASICs to mine Zcash.
Zcash had the equivalent of 1,000,000 GTX 1070s mining it during the GPU heydays. Right, now, however, if assume that the network is almost entirely ASICs and that it is split 50/50 between Z9s and A9s, we can calculate that there are only 20,000 unique machines mining Zcash. So the number of people who have been hurt by ASICs is far greater than the number who would be hurt by switching back to GPUs. And again, like I’ve explained numerous times, ASIC manufacturers and people who bought ASICs were under the assumption that Zcash would stay true to its word and fork away from ASICs.
And I disagree with your assertion about changing the Equihash parameters. It would immediately get rid of ASICs and reduce the effectiveness of future ASICs. Anyone who says otherwise is either lying or stupid.
I making assumptions, which I stated in my calculations. That is a perfectly reasonable thing to do. Zcash is far less profitable to mine than other coins, such as Ethereum, and it consumes more power. I am assuming that GPU miners are acting rational when I assume that they are not mining Zcash anymore.
GPU miners lost the ability to mine without ASICs. (You’re arguing semantics now, which is incredibly boring and pathetic.)
I have one GTX 1080 Ti that I purchased for gaming. I have also used it for mining, and I suspect there are a lot of people like me – people who bought GPUs for gaming but ended up using them for mining on the side. This is one a major reason why GPU mining is much better – more people can participate in the network without taking on huge speculative risks.
again, removing asics is not going to magically bring your profit per 1080ti back to $10. There are too many GPUs run by farms that bought them up by the plane load. Even RVN which is gpu only is under $1.
Hey, ASIC’s (Bitmain) won the ZCash war. I could care less anymore. There are much better coins. BTG is awesome now that it switched to new equihash algo just like Zcash should have done - didn’t take the BTG team long either - unlike the BS the Zcash team was spewing about “disruption” and priorities.
UBIQ, VTC,BTG, Pascal Coin, and other ProgPoW coins have joined the anti-bitmain revolution. Zcash can say hello to sub $100 prices and kiss its ass goodbye due to centralization. I put in my 2 cents a long time ago to fight against what has happened, and the devs have voted and the war is over. Good luck in the ASIC arms race! Price will fall until it is under $50. Lightining network , and new anonymous BTC technologies are going to obliterate Zcash.
