It looks like meet.zeal.center requires an account thatās separate from zeal.center.
This is fine. But, I donāt see where I can create an account on meet.zeal.center.

Yes, the accounts for each are separate. I could have created accounts for everyone but I didnāt want people to have to manage Yet Another Account if they really donāt needed/wanted one.
So for now, registration is on a āask and you shall receiveā basis

I looked into it and there is a <link> field for each <item> field in the XML for the RSS feed, from what Iāve read some bots allow you to configure which fields to post to the other side of your bridge.

Maybe some other bots. Iāve messed with that before, in web dev environment. But, the bot weāre using (Mee6) only takes a url as input for RSS feeds. Thanks @ZealWizard

First, I want to thank the members of the community that have supported the Zeal Center, both with ZEC and by being active in the decentralized Fediverse.
We find ourselves in an unprecedented position, your generous donations have covered the costs of our Mastodon server for an entire year! Thatās right, the hosting costs are covered until December 2025
Not only that, but the Zeal Center wallet still has enough funds that our community can now choose what to do. I will be polling our members on Mastodon, these are some of the possibilities:
- Pay for a whole extra year for the Mastodon server, having it covered through 2026.
- Create a Matrix server for the Zeal Center.
- Anything else the community suggests!

Fedi-Fantastic!! I vote to leave the funds where they are for now and run another fundraiser at the end of next November.
On the other hand, I strongly believe Zcash should have a Matrix server and pretty sure Iām not alone ā¦

Interesting idea, what are the benefits of using Matrix and how much would it cost?

Thatās not a good reason to get a matrix server imho. If anything its the opposite, we use the discord server because we know the risks, and choose to connect where people are regardless. We are certainly doing important work.
How does everyone access either the fedi-verse or matrix with their phones? Any recommendations?

note: Iām using that as an example, not agreeing with him. I do think Discord has been a very valuable platform for Zcash and should not be ignored as a powerful tool for community chat.
The main value that I see in Matrix over Discord, in addition to privacy, is community ownership. Discord could potentially shut down the Zcash Global server for a violation or on a whim.
There will be bridges. This is more about giving people the option to access the community on the network of their choosing and having a redundant copy in case of Discord shutting down the server.
Matrix is an open source project and has had an active community for a rather long time. In my experience with Matrix communities, thereās a common skepticism about cryptocurrencies. Showing our support through adoption and contribution could go a long way and be mutually beneficial, given the aligned values.
Iāve seen several Matrix homeservers accepting Monero for donations and memberships but none accepting Zcash.
For Matrix, I use Element on my desktop and mobile.

This makes zero sense to me, lets get the ball rolling.

Ryan hit all the main points. A Matrix homeserver gets you the same as functionality as Discord. The upsides of Matrix, in my opinion:
- Federates, so you can use your account to interact with other projects on Matrix like GrapheneOS, Ubuntu, etc.
- End-to-end encryption for direct messages.
- You donāt get the āWeāve updated our privacy policyā email, selling all our data to someone.
As for the cost, using the same privacy-respecting hosting provider that we have for Mastodon, it would be ā¬45 a month.
