I used to run a full node—there was a wallet built right into the Zcash node itself—but over time, it consumed so much hard drive space that I was forced to transfer my funds to a light wallet. How much storage does a full node require nowadays? Is the wallet still included in the node software? Does Zcash plan to use Halo 2’s recursion capabilities to reduce the storage footprint of a full node?
External drives prices havent been too bad , I assume prices will stay low as the tech improves. Zallet is what zcash-cli has transformed into and its almost ready for take off! It is the full node wallet you are used to. Tbh, Im not worried about disk space, similar to RAM, prices are cyclical and eventually trend down over time ( AI has caused a local spike ) .
Hey! New user, I wanted to make a post on the general section.
I’m interested in an analytics project focused on zcash mostly just for fun. I thought it might be a good idea to engage the community on this and see what might be some interesting analysis?
Given the timing I figured a turnstile report might be topical/interesting for Orchard → Ironwood migration. Perhaps some general shielded pool analysis?
Curious to hear the communities thoughts!
Here is a short list of sites to check out:
Thanks!! Good context, clearly well documented in the areas you would expect. I’ll need to look for some gaps to fill between these tools
Very good, I’ll have to save these links. Which block explorer do you recommend?
Anything you run yourself!!
Hi Zcash folks,
I"m new to the community.
I raised a question about FROST, and would like to get some clarify and help for it, thanks.
Add support for changing n of m to n+1 of m+1 and keep group public key unchanged Add support for changing `n of m` to `n+1 of m+1` and keep group public key unchanged · Issue #1082 · ZcashFoundation/frost · GitHub
Btw, it is great to see people building on FROST, here is a nice example, GitHub - stars-labs/starlab-mpc: FROST threshold-signature MPC engine — Rust SDK + headless CLI + terminal UI + WebRTC signal server. Multi-device wallets (DKG + threshold signing) for Ethereum, Solana, Bitcoin; no single device holds the key. · GitHub
Also curious about does Zcash have any roadmap or plans for quantum computation?
Where can I find the current or real-time network fee (transaction fee)?
Zcash does not have a continuously changing “gas price” in the same way as Ethereum. Wallets generally follow the ZIP-317 conventional fee:
5,000 zatoshis × max(2, number of logical actions)
This makes the conventional minimum fee 10,000 zatoshis, or 0.0001 ZEC, for a typical transaction. Transactions involving more inputs, outputs, or shielded actions may cost more.
The wallet should calculate and display the final fee before confirmation. Explorers can show fees paid by confirmed transactions, but they are not really a live fee oracle.
Official specification: ZIP 317: Proportional Transfer Fee Mechanism
I have a question about Ironwood: will a new Ironwood-specific public key be created? How will I distinguish an Ironwood-specific public key?
How do I perform a migration manually? How do I distinguish between an Orchard key and an Ironwood key?
hey @Autotunafish , Zkool v 6.26.1 just spins after confirming the tx on ledger. T to T. Is there an issue with the Ledger shielded app or this Zkool version? I can’t seem to find any error; it’s just stuck loading, trying to broadcast the tx
Ledger compatibility seems to have been restored only last week in 6.25.1
Which binary are you running and what operating system is this?
I heard you need zondax app version 4.3.3
Which website allows me to extract historical minute-by-minute Zcash price data in JSON or CSV format? I tried CoinGecko, but it only gives me daily prices.
You would likely need a paid API from a site like Messari or Coingecko for live data across multiple exchanges
If exchange-specific data is acceptable, Coinbase Exchange has a public ZEC-USD candles endpoint that returns one-minute OHLCV data in JSON:
https://api.exchange.coinbase.com/products/ZEC-USD/candles?granularity=60
For historical periods, you can add ISO 8601 start and end parameters. Each request is limited to 300 candles, so longer histories need to be retrieved in chunks.
The returned format is:
[time, low, high, open, close, volume]
Just note that this represents Coinbase’s ZEC-USD market, not a composite price across multiple exchanges.
Documentation: Get product candles - Coinbase Developer Documentation
(I can’t do anything on this forum. Can you remove all restrictions?)
Yesterday I couldn’t reply to the Zkool thread, so I’m writing here.
In my ZoDL wallet, it’s sending to text addresses just fine.
There’s an error in Zkool to text addresses. (and I wouldn’t want to paste and show my address somewhere, Moreover, it has been working properly for a long time now)
hey there, yeah unable to post but can like or reply, thanks
