Hi @hanh , hoping for help understanding a transaction from Jan 23, 2025.

What I did: I was trying to send ZEC from YWallet (imported via Restore using my Ledger-generated seed phrase) to an exchange. After I tapped Send, the app became very slow/unresponsive. Thinking the first attempt hadn’t gone through, I tapped Send again a bit later. I did NOT use the Sweep tool - just the ordinary Send screen, twice.

What happened: this transaction resulted:

  • TXID: 1a468081b548aedcc1db5ca192baa5ac67f478a1bc0ad2de241799f9f75baff3
  • From: t1Y65icVhtWn1Kg93MkjmchY6C9j9fybD8K (my Ledger address, restored in YWallet)
  • To: t1NdzKgTm2dJW9c7TrnNuB4aKV7aP9i9sGf
  • 616.409212 ZEC — my full balance, standard fee (10000 zat).

I don’t recognize the destination address, and it’s not the exchange address I intended to send to.

What I’ve checked: I scanned my Ledger seed exhaustively - standard BIP44 path m/44’/133’/account’/change/index across 100 accounts Ɨ 10,000 indices Ɨ both chains (2M addresses total), plus common non-standard derivations (other coin types, non-hardened accounts, missing change level) - and could not derive t1Ndz… from it anywhere. As a sanity check, the same scan instantly finds t1Y65… at the expected path, so the seed and the scanning method are both correct.

The destination address balance hasn’t moved in 19+ months, which seems unlikely for a random attacker’s address.

My questions:

  1. Is there any known issue where tapping ā€œSendā€ twice while the app is unresponsive could send funds to an address other than the one I entered - e.g. a stuck transaction getting resent with a different/cached destination, or some UI state bug around that time?
  2. Could this address be something YWallet itself would use or generate around a Send/retry, even though it doesn’t come from my seed’s standard or non-standard derivation?
  3. Anything the TXID itself might reveal about what happened?

Thanks for any help.

Did you check the Ywallet transparent address? Its balance is not displayed by default, you have to swipe the QR a few times to get to it.

Also, Ywallet is deprecated. You’ll need to restore your seed in zkool to be able to spend any funds (if they are there).

Was the exchange address a Tex address or a unified address?

Also, are you talking about a tx made 1.5 years ago?

I’m not sure if it was a TEX or a unified address. At the time, I couldn’t transfer Zcash from Ledger directly, so I decided to use Ywallet to make it possible. When I installed the app and tried to restore my account by entering my seed phrase, it initially showed my Ledger balance, offered to merge them, and I clicked ā€œOK.ā€ After that, I didn’t see any coins in my account and tried to restore it again, but this time an error appeared saying I needed to update the account index (the default was 40), so I set it to -1000; the indicator turned green, and I clicked ā€œOK.ā€ That’s all I did.

A post was merged into an existing topic: Zkool - The successor to Ywallet

I have a wallet.dat and a password but none of the Zcash apps have worked for me. zcashd just freezes. ykool and ywallet don’t work.

Hi, I have a .dat

It is the (official) replacement for the zcashd internal wallet, but I will defer to the zodl devs or maybe @pacu to clarify on the db file name extension

Check this thread:

That article was from back when zcashd still worked, the replacement wallet should support the file type.

If all else fails I believe arktor was successful using the Berkeley DB tool to extract the public/private keys from the wallet.dat

Hello there I’ve been in the crypto game since 2017 and in that time I got into many coins the one I liked most was Zcash due to privacy problems with funds and people being able to see what it’s worth ect I had an old wallet from back in the day early-mid 2017 it was zcashd which is still on my laptop from back then I’m currently having problems trying to recover the funds as the wallet seems to just not work at all now

Check out the post directly above you. Zallet as another option should also handle a wallet.dat (though the docs currently specify wallet.db) Backup and restore - The Zallet Book

If you have the private keys, you could import those individually into Zkool Release zkool: v6.29.0 Ā· hhanh00/zkool2 Ā· GitHub

ZecWallet Lite 2021 seed — 8 checksum candidates for missing word 24, all empty at account index 0

I have a ZecWallet Lite 24-word seed from a wallet created sometime in 2021. Word 24 was never written down. The other 23 are intact and I’m confident in them.

Since a 24-word phrase has an 8-bit checksum, the missing final word narrows to exactly 8 valid candidates, which I generated offline.

What I’ve tried so far:

  • Zkool, all 8 candidates as separate accounts at account index 0, birthday 1100000
  • All 8 synced to 100%
  • Every one shows 0 balance and no transaction history at all
  • Zingo PC wouldn’t connect, so I moved to Zkool
  • No BIP-39 passphrase was ever set (as far as I know ZecWallet Lite didn’t support one)

I’m now trying Argos, and planning to retry at account index 1 and 2 with birthday 419200.

Questions:

  1. Does ā€œno transaction history whatsoeverā€ at index 0 tell you anything useful? Would ZecWallet Lite funds ever be completely invisible at index 0, or does this suggest my problem is elsewhere?
  2. What derivation did ZecWallet Lite actually use for the addresses it generated after the initial one? I’ve seen the v1.1.11 release note about creating multiple addresses on restore but haven’t found the specifics.
  3. Anything else worth ruling out before I conclude the wallet was empty?

Happy to provide more detail. Obviously not posting any of the words.

Let me know if you have any issues with Argos. I’m keeping an eye on the thread.

We scan the first 20 addresses indexes by default so it should be pretty likely if you have funds in the wallet they show up.
