RFP - Run Your Own Zcash Full Node

I think @ahas said he got his to sync in 10 days, so hopefully it doesn’t take 3 1/2 weeks. I’ll keep you posted on how long it takes.

Will it be able to process a block in real-time during the spam period? i.e. 1 block in less than 75 sec.

Edit: Hmm - it should, otherwise it would take much longer than 3 weeks.

I hope so, like I said it’s just a guess. In my experience with zcashd recently, the beginning of the chain goes a little slowly, picks up speed until it reaches the spam at about 1.8 million ish and trudges along till about 2.2m maybe where it kind of speeds up again. My last sync on a laptop that may be comparable, or maybe even slower idk, w/ an external ssd took ‘quite’ a while. I can’t remember how long exactly but it was something like a month and thats kind of what Im going on. Hopefully this goes faster :fast_forward:

Hi,
While developing the device , I faced the same issue after the sync gets to 70-73% , usually when it gets above 80% from my experience , block downloads tends to go a little bit faster.

I tested 3 devices , two of them were able to sync within 10 days. One however took more than 3 weeks to sync , even tho it’s the same platform.

Like @shawn implied , there is some CPU bottleneck due to Pi CM4’s limited clock rate , it does not seems to affect syncing much , instead it’s affecting loading speed of dashboard , when a user is trying to connect.

Due to this slow load time , device gets border line unusable when it’s synced upto 75%. But since wallet functionality is unavailable until sync completed , I guess this load time won’t be a issue.

The load time is not an issue but if you think you need help about it let me know so I can

Are you thinking about switching to a different SoC and designing a new board/utilising another SoM?
I had plans for it , but Grant committee asked me if it can be done on Pi.
Is that it or do you have something else in mind? It’d be great if I could cut down the time taken by Zcashd to return RPC calls while syncing.

Update: The node has been syncing for 10 days and is currently 73% complete.

Yeah, but you entered the spam zone. 1 month of it so far…

Is there a way to eliminate those spam data from blockchian.

Yes. Hard fork

I got better sync time. In a few days after the sync gets close to 80% speed will pick up. That’s the experience I had.
Let’s see how it goes this time.

I’m hoping that it won’t take a month or so , that might probably dissuade potential customers.

I meant that @aquietinvestor was processing 1 month of spam so far when he was reporting his progress, not that the sync would take 1 month.

:eyes: How we looking?

It’s been syncing for 22 days and it’s currently at 80.65%. Looks like @Autotunafish’s prediction is likely to be accurate.

@BrunchTime - What’s the status of your sync?

Getting there.

After 26 days, the sync is complete:

It looks like you might still be 1,000 or so blocks behind. (Does your client believe that 2,450,797 is the highest current height?)

Very close!
