This thread is the investigation, and I concur with @conradoplg 's findings.
Given the evidence I believe it was the high volume from zerdinals.com. The spike in activity was handled properly by the network, eventually. I doubt there was any service interruption at all.
Not an attack.

Also, here’s a test we can do 
If what this person says is true, then we can predict another spike in T-minus 3 hours or so.

From what I understand there is supposed to be 21M Zerdinals total issued,
And at the time of this post: “Found total 33,180 Zecscription” so 33k issued.
So with those numbers we could probably calculate how long this will last.

Well, actually all my services are running really slow since this increase in mempool / transactions.
It keeps syncing the same block for a long time before finishing, log example:

Even though it’s 100% sync, it keeps syncing with message “Sync task is not complete.”
Not a catastrophic failure, but it’s annoying to be that slow.
Using zingolib 2.0.7 (even though latest is 2.0.9, I believe the problem will perssist).
Would like to know if any other user of zingolib is getting the same.

I have experienced some strange behavior when making transactions. The connection to the server is slow, and it seems like transactions take a long time to confirm, and then suddenly they appear with three or more confirmations.

It seems to me that vigilance is valuable.
Not a malicious one either, if you consider this to be “valid economic activity.”
And I guess it’s up to where you want to draw the line 
maybe this is the line.
The client API for interacting with a large mempool is quite inefficient. Since the mempool can be significantly larger than a block, it can get pretty bad quickly
