Europe woke up to a new ZEC wrapper today. [21shares launched its physically backed Zcash ETP (ticker: ZCASH)](https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2026/09/22/3365982/0/en/21shares-expands-product-suite-with-launches-of-ether-fi-etp-ethfi-and-zcash-etp-zcash.html) on Euronext Paris and Euronext Amsterdam this morning, pitching it explicitly around [“financial privacy and post-quantum security.”](https://www.analyticsinsight.net/news/21shares-launches-etherfi-and-zcash-etps-across-europe) That’s a distinct thesis from Grayscale’s US ETF, and it’s interesting that two major issuers are now racing to wrap ZEC for traditional investors simultaneously.
The most interesting piece of the day isn’t a price chart — it’s [Mert Mumtaz’s argument on Unchained](https://unchainedcrypto.com/zcash-is-rallying-on-more-than-privacy-mert-mumtaz-argues/) that Zcash’s rally is not fundamentally about privacy. His tell: [if it were purely a privacy trade, Monero would be doing the same numbers](https://phemex.com/news/article/helius-ceo-zcash-rally-driven-by-complete-store-of-value-narrative-97468). It isn’t. The real pitch, he says, is a complete store of value — fungibility plus quantum resistance plus ZK cryptography. I’m not sure he’s fully right, but it’s the first rigorous challenge I’ve seen to the “privacy is back” narrative.
The [Q3 coinholder retroactive grants vote](https://forum.zcashcommunity.com/t/q3-and-q4-coinholder-directed-retroactive-grants-program-dates-plan-ahead/56606) is now past the halfway mark with one week left — 37 proposals are live, open to shielded ZEC holders until 20:00 UTC on September 29, with a quorum threshold of ~420,000 ZEC. What’s interesting here isn’t the number of proposals — it’s that voters must upgrade to Zodl 3.14.0, the latest Vizor Wallet, or Zkool to participate, meaning every vote is a quiet privacy signal. Worth checking where quorum stands heading into the final stretch.
The [Colosseum Crypto World’s Fair hackathon](https://github.com/ZcashCommunityGrants/zcashcommunitygrants/issues/414) has a Zcash track running through October 12 — teams from Solana, Ethereum, Sui, Zcash, Bitcoin, and others are competing, with Zcash among the ecosystems putting up a $100,000 dedicated prize pool. Colosseum’s stated goal is to attract 10–15 high-quality founders to integrate with Zcash. That ambition deserves scrutiny — Solana grew partly through exactly this kind of repeated builder-pipeline work, and [ZCG approved the grant at a revised $150,000](https://forum.zcashcommunity.com/t/grant-proposal-colosseum-hackathon-zcash-track/57405). Big congrats to the team!
On the regulatory front, the Senate rejected CLARITY Act cloture 49–50 on September 15, leaving the bill eleven votes short of floor debate, with every Democrat voting no over unresolved ethics provisions. [ZEC jumped 15% the day after](https://cryptonews.com/news/zcash-crypto-price-surge-clarity-act/) — the read being that a failed surveillance-friendly framework is a tailwind for privacy coins. Unless the Senate stages a rapid re-vote before October 5, market structure legislation likely slips to 2027 — and the Zcash community’s reaction has been cautiously optimistic about what that delay means for ZEC’s narrative.
Meanwhile, ZRC-20’s $CASH token launches tomorrow, and the drama is still fresh. @maxdesalle You think we can up this to $150M with the extra $31M they’ll get by eliminating the Dev Fund? That’s 19,710 extra ZEC per year! Go Cypherpunk! I mean, obviously, it’s an economically rational decision in the benefit of the community and eliminates centralisation, clearly, Cypherpunk is an anonymous, non-equity-backed organisation after all.
