ZEC jumped 8% today to around [$1,332](https://invezz.com/news/2026/10/12/zcash-price-tops-1300-despite-124m-etf-outflows-why-is-zec-still-rallying/) on a [derivatives short squeeze](https://kucoin.com/news/flash/zcash-rises-5-amid-short-squeeze-ahead-of-major-network-upgrade) — $4.91M in liquidations, 79% from shorts. The interesting part: ZCSH recorded $124M in net outflows over two weeks. Institutional money leaving the ETF wrapper while spot squeezes shorts. Two markets, same asset, opposite bets.

[Zebra 7.0.0-rc.0](https://zfnd.org/zebra-7-0-0-rc-0-nu7-arrives-on-testnet/) shipped October 2 and NU7 [activated on testnet](https://cryptodaily.co.uk/2026/10/zcash-nu7-testnet-25-second-block-times) at block 4,465,026 — 25-second blocks, NSM fee recycling, all running. The [mainnet decision](https://u.today/zcash-gets-upgrade-alert-two-key-dates-in-october) lands October 20, eight days out. Downstream, Zingo [merged NU7 deps](https://github.com/zingolabs/zingolib/pull/2878) and synced 16,410 blocks across the activation boundary clean.

On the forum, the [ZSwap grant](https://forum.zcashcommunity.com/t/zswap-a-shielded-atomic-swap-specification/57884) ($50k for shielded atomic swaps via adaptor signatures) is generating real technical debate — a [frontrunning problem](https://forum.zcashcommunity.com/t/zswap-a-shielded-atomic-swap-specification/57884) with the design remains unresolved. ZCG approved [0xramp](https://forum.zcashcommunity.com/t/grant-application-0xramp/57892) at $45k for non-custodial ZEC payments in Brazil. Zcon7 in Cancún is two weeks out.
