Hello! I want to share two important updates with you:

First, I would like to inform @FPF, @ZCG, @ElectricCoinCo, @ryan.taylor, @ZcashFoundation, [@ZecHub](https://forum.zcashcommunity.com/groups/zechub), Zcash Spanish, @zooko, and others involved in the Zcash ecosystem that, starting January 2025, all communications between Zcash Brazil and international entities will be handled directly by me @michae2xl ( **OBS.: for Dev & design team feel free to ask anything direct to them** ). **This change will eliminate intermediaries and improve communication. I am looking forward to addressing any matters related to the ecosystem, including marketing, strategy, research, global announcements, and collaboration. Our team and I are eager to assist in any way necessary.**

Secondly, I would like to invite you to an event taking place in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais called Modular Carnival, scheduled for February 25th to March 1st, 2025. Zcash Brazil will be participating and sponsoring the event, which means we will have tickets available, space for presentations, and English-speaking attendees. We would be delighted to extend this invitation to all of you. Zcash Brazil will have the following setup:

**Workshop/ Talk:** A 20-minute session to engage directly with attendees;
**Tickets: VIP Tickets:** 8 VIP access passes for exclusive access to networking areas and private sessions.
**General Admission:** 10 general admission tickets included.
**Brand Visibility:** The Zcash Brasil brand will be featured as an event sponsor across all marketing channels, including social media, email campaigns, publicity materials, the event website, and event banners.
**Advertising Exposure:** A 15-second promotional spot will be displayed on all stage screens throughout the event, ensuring maximum visibility.
**Networking Opportunities:** Connect with key web3 players from LatAm during the event, including other sponsors, speakers, and industry leaders. We’ll create exclusive spaces to foster meaningful networking, providing the foundation for future collaborations.
**Social Media Features:** We will feature Zcash Brasil on our event’s social media channels, including pre-event, during, and post-event posts, to maximize your exposure to our community.

If anyone would like to participate, share costs, or just show up, just let us know that will be a pleasure.

Thanks, Michael.

**We are thrilled to announce that we have achieved our 1 milestone of 2025.**

Milestone 1 - estimated completion date: 01/31/2025

* * *

We are thrilled about our promising start to 2025 and have exciting news for the community. Our commitment to expanding Zcash in Brazil is stronger than ever.

- To ensure transparency, we have created an open repository on GitHub where all our activities and updates will be documented. You can access it here. This demonstrates our dedication to everyone involved with Zcash.
[GitHub · Where software is built](https://github.com/james-katz/zcash-brazil/milestones)

- As a first step, we have developed an education framework (PPT + BRAND) aimed at onboarding new Zcashers. This initiative will provide training for new members interested in discussing Zcash and earning their first ZEC, project: Zcash Junior Brasil

- We will also be hosting our first stand in Brazil, featuring engaging art and giveaways, at a medium to a large event in Minas Gerais from February 26th to March 1st. We are proud to be sponsors and will have a stage where our team will discuss Zcash - Modular Carnival

- In exciting news, we have established our first fiat on-ramp in Brazil through the partnership of Zashi with Coinbase. We will be starting work on this soon to create a marketing campaign in Brazil.

- Additionally, we have applied to present at ZconVI on the topic of “Brazilian CBDC vs. Privacy Implications.”

- Our developer, James, has delivered Testnet Zecfaucet to developers, is providing support, and is actively participating in various teams within the Zcash ecosystem. This is another step in our commitment to collaboration.

- In January, we reached out to several partners and held numerous meetings. We will begin planning in February.

- We also have some projects, such as “Write to Earn,” among other initiatives, that are open issues and will be executed soon.

- Our design team has been doing a remarkable job, and we will share updates as soon as they go live.

- We are continuing with all translations, research, moderation, calls, articles, quizzes, and testing of new products related to Zcash. We have a strong presence on social media, ZecHub DAO, etc.

We are very happy to present our first milestone 2025.

Brand kit
We, the design team, have gathered and made available png, jpg and svg files of some of the most relevant logos to the Zcash ecosystem for use by us at Zcash Brasil, ZecHub, collaborators and new ambassadors. With this kit in a zip format, it makes life easier for those who need to develop promotional material. A few wallets are still missing, but the update is on going.

**Modular Carnival Event**
Planning the design for in-person events is a huge undertaking. For ModularCarnival, we first decided which giveaways would be produced. The event’s setting and table were designed and redesigned until they were in this format and approved by the team.
We selected which stickers to make and their quality. We chose Zashi, because of the action we would be carrying out during the event, the Zcash logo, the privacy is normal message, and Zepe, simply because we love it and it’s Carnival Eve. We chose glasses and a webcam protector that have everything to do with privacy.
And we had the pleasure of creating a pocketbook layout and printing chapter 5 of the book My First Zcash in Portuguese.
In addition to our design work, we were present at the Zcash stand, onboarding the Zashi wallet, talking about the importance of privacy and explaining Zcash to those who already knew it or had never heard of it.

### James Katz Dev Report

### Discord Bot Improvement

Project: Dizzy – A Discord bot for sending and receiving $zec.

- New Feature: Implemented an airdrop command exclusively for active users (active in the past 60 minutes) to prevent non-participative “lurkers” from collecting airdrops.
- Progress: Initially implemented and untested; later tested, confirmed working, and finally deployed.

### ZecPaper Wallet Website

Project: Zcash Paper Wallet – A website dedicated to generating Zcash paper wallets.
Key Updates:

- Added the requested artwork (#22) to the site.
- Launched the website at [https://zecpaperwallet.com](https://zecpaperwallet.com).

Community Impact:
The site, [zecpaperwallet.com](http://zecpaperwallet.com), received high community praise.
Official announcement on the Zcash Community Forum and a successful Twitter post with over 4K views, 60 likes, and 33 reposts.

Additional Features:

- Added support for exporting the transparent address public key (CLI tool only) for advanced users.
- Configured a Vercel workflow to automate builds and deployments, ensuring the site is always up-to-date.

### Ecosystem Collaboration: FROST

Project: FROST GUI Proof of Concept
Motivation: Right now, if you want to try out ZF’s FROST, you’re stuck with a command line interface that can be a bit daunting and might even scare some users off. I decided to build a straightforward, user-friendly GUI demo that walks you through each step of creating FROST keys and groups—and eventually, it’ll even handle message and transaction signing.

Highlights:

- Established first contact and received positive feedback and guidance.
- Decided to base the GUI demos on the existing frost-client code.
- Attended a webinar hosted by the Zcash Foundation, were FROST-GUI PoC was mentioned, generating interest from other participants.

Progress on FROST GUI PoC:

- Implemented several key features such as credentials creation (both individual and with a trusted dealer), group management (including creation and deletion), and contact management (export/import functions).
- Identified and reported a bug in the frost-zcash-demo on the Zcash Foundation Discord server.

### James Katz Dev March Report

### Ecosystem Collaboration

### FROST-GUI Demo

The demo now supports full\* DKG compatibility. A coordinator can select participants from a list to start a DKG session, and the remaining participants join automatically.
_Note: frost-client supports only one active DKG session at a time, so the same limitation applies to FROST\_GUI._

**UFVK Generation**
Initially, UFVKs were generated but not stored. Now, generated UFVKs are persisted on disk, moving one step closer to a complete solution.

## ZcashMetro UI Issue

The [https://zcashmetro.io](https://zcashmetro.io) UI wasn’t updating properly—blocks were mined but transactions weren’t animated correctly, and trains didn’t leave the station. After investigation, it turned out that while error handling needed improvement, the root cause was a compatibility issue with zec.rocks handling requests. As a backup, hanh’s lightwalletd servers have been put in place.
Further error handling improvements and possibly contacting zec.rocks for a dedicated server are in the pipeline.

## Discord Bridge Setup

Assisted @vito with configuring a Discord bridge between the Zcash Global and Penumbra Discord servers, enhancing ecosystem collaboration.

## ZM Bot Improvements

ZM Bot is a friendly greeting assistant for the Zcash community. It warmly welcomes users with messages like “good morning” or “good night,” and lucky participants might even receive a golden ticket redeemable for a prize in $ZEC.

**Golden Ticket Feature Enhancement**
The “Golden Ticket” feature has been overhauled. Although there was initial concern about a database bug (with only 6 records showing), it turned out the logic was designed to update existing records instead of creating new ones. A new relational database structure has now been implemented, ensuring the ticket awards are merit-based and reflective of user engagement. The updated version has been well received by the community.

**UI Bug Fix**
A small UI bug, where a reply message was being concatenated incorrectly, has been resolved.

## Dizzy’s Activedrop Enhancements

Dizzy Bot is the bot we uso withing Zcash Global server for awarding our users with small amounts of $ZEC.

**Meaningful Engagement Encouragement**
The activedrop command was intended to encourage meaningful conversations. However, users were bypassing this by sending only emojis. A filter has been added to ensure that only real messages count as chat activity, promoting a more organic discussion flow.

## ZecStats Discord Bot Updates

**New Price Widget**
A new price widget has replaced the old $ZEC widget. It now updates every 5 minutes using data from the CoinGecko API, ensuring more timely and accurate pricing information.

**Shielded Supply Improvements**
The command for displaying the Zcash shielded supply has been fixed. Additionally, new widgets have been added to display:

- Orchard supply
- Sapling supply
- Total shielded supply (Orchard + Sapling)
- Lockbox (total amount of $ZEC stored)

And for those curious to see the progress on FROST-GUI Demo:

[![](https://global.discourse-cdn.com/zcash/original/3X/e/d/ed6d954c9894895cebe8b87e456e7bd7b619c70d.jpeg "FROST-GUI First demo") ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wwkc8WpIOMs)

(No sound, no narration, sorry guys. Wathc on 2x or jump to 2:28 for the good stuff) p.s. actually there’s the sound of me breathing heavily, sorry 😅

DKG is now working! Trusted dealer was kept as a backup, in case DKG is not available.

**edit**
In the video I open 3 FROST-GUI windows for demonstration purposes, but since it’s communicating with `frostd.zfnd.org`, it should work on separate machines.

Next step is to implement message signing. I hope I can do this by this month.

Right now I’m building a simple (and very hacky) `lib.rs` on top of `frost-client` and `frost-zcash-demo`. Though my implementation is pretty much ad hoc, soon I’ll release the code, so anyone can contribute and make it a more general-use lib for `forst-client`.

Hope you guys enjoy it. And thank you everyone!

Also cc @conradoplg , thank you for all the support and shout outs. Keep up the great work!

Pacu, do you speak Spanish? I believe that it is easier for you to learn Portuguese, they are very similar languages. I believe that in 6 months you will already be able to speak Portuguese.

### James Katz Dev April Report

## ZecFaucet Frontend Development & UX Enhancements

Rewrote the faucet frontend in React/JavaScript with a modern, clean design.

### Final launch

– Responsive layout optimized for desktop and mobile.
– “Loading” and “Offline” messages improve user feedback during slow or down backends.

### Security upgrade

Introduced a dynamic Proof-of-Work challenge: difficulty scales automatically with faucet load and user claim history, deterring abuse while remaining trivial for legitimate users.

## Governance Infrastructure Support

### zcash-vote-server validation node

Collaborated with Dismad to deploy and configure a vote-server node for the Zcash Election system.
This brings Zcash Brasil into the governance ecosystem, helping secure on-chain voting for coin holders.

## Testnet faucet Infrastructure & Support

### Testnet ZecFaucet lightwalletd outage

– Performed a full rescan of the testnet wallet.
– Switched back to the testnet.zec.rocks LightwalletD server to restore service.

### User assistance

Provided on‐demand help on Discord to distribute testnet TAZ while the faucet was offline.

## SSL Certificate Management

Certificates renewed for:

## Zcashmetro Service Restoration

### Incident root cause

LightwalletD backend at hahn’s zcash-infra began refusing connections, taking [zcashmetro.io](http://zcashmetro.io) offline.

### Mitigation & recovery

– Evaluated alternative endpoints via [https://hosh.zec.rocks/zec](https://hosh.zec.rocks/zec).
– Switched to lightwalletd.stakehold.rs:443, bringing [https://zcashmetro.io](https://zcashmetro.io) back online.

## Discord Bot Maintenance & Improvements

ZM Bot ranking system
Resolved a visual inconsistency: when users tied in rank, their positions no longer swap randomly. Ties now respect join‐order, ensuring repeatable, fair ranking.
