# Zcash Ecosystem Monorepo

In my ideal fantasy world, I would like a single monorepo with a single trunk. But, this is unrealistic, especially any time soon. So, submodules are used for the different canonical repos that make up the Zcash ecosystem. Important to me is that a devcontainer is supplied that provides a development environment that is reasonably complete, stable and reproducible. So, new developers could just pop in and have Rust, NPM, Python, etc installed. On a brand new machine (with only docker), in the devcontainer, you can simply build anything. Follow any other README in a submodule without having to install prereqs.

Main focus is on the UI/UX ecosystem since we have had extremely rocky waters recently with light wallets. Core repos like zcash/zcash and zcash/lightwalletd are basically upstream dependencies in this scenario. Not exactly a monorepo. I call it a metarepo. I much prefer to work on different repos in a defined layout with defined versions than have a whole mess of ad hoc checkouts of things. Try it out and let me know what you think!

Note the free2z/free2z metarepo will likely be renamed to `free2z/zuu` - ZUU is a play on “Zcash Wallet” and “Zcash UI Universe”. I’ll likely add the free2z source directly there without submodules and submodule some more things like zebra and zecpages there soon.
