> Relevant Team Experience
>
> The team has previous experience organizing and supporting blockchain education activities for Kenyan audiences.
>
> One example is the ICP Hub Kenya Campus Tour, where ChainWeb participated in a University of Embu engagement introducing students to Web3 and smart contracts. The activity engaged 60+ participants.

>
> ChainWeb has also supported community education around topics including blockchain development, multisig security, Web3 applications and emerging blockchain tools.
>
> These experiences are directly relevant to the proposed Zcash project because the team has already demonstrated the ability to:
>
> \-identify and engage Kenyan technology communities
> \-organize educational sessions
> \-explain emerging blockchain technologies to newcomers
> \-facilitate technical discussions
> \-work with university audience
> \-create community-focused educational content
> \-document and communicate community activities.
>
> The proposed Zcash program will build on this existing community education experience while introducing a more focused topic: financial privacy and practical Zcash usage.
> \`\`\`
>
> \### Project Summary
>
> Zcash Kenya — Privacy, Community & Economic Adoption Initiative is a focused four-month program designed to introduce financial privacy and practical Zcash usage to selected Kenyan university, technology and Web3 communities. The project will combine privacy education, practical onboarding, educational content and community challenges to establish a small but active Kenyan Zcash community that can continue growing after the grant period.
>
> \### Project Description
>
> Kenya has a strong technology, digital-finance and Web3 ecosystem, but financial privacy remains relatively underrepresented in the broader cryptocurrency conversation.
>
> Much of the public discussion around cryptocurrency focuses on trading, speculation, token launches and investment. This project will introduce a different perspective by helping Kenyan technology and Web3 communities understand why financial privacy matters and how Zcash can be used in practice.
>
> The project will run for four months and focus on selected communities rather than attempting to cover the entire country.
>
> The program will establish a small network of Zcash community and engage selected university and technology communities through practical educational sessions.
>
> Participants will be introduced to:
>
> 1.Financial privacy.
> 2.Public versus private blockchain transactions.
> 3.Zcash and shielded transactions.
> 4.Practical Zcash wallet usage
> 5.Privacy use cases for digital workers and businesses.
> 6.Existing Zcash applications and ecosystem opportunities.
>
> The program will use a simple participation journey:
>
> Discover Zcash → Understand Privacy → Try Zcash → Use Zcash → Share the Experience
>
> The project will also produce educational content and practical community challenges to encourage participants to move beyond simply hearing about Zcash and actually interacting with the ecosystem.
>
> The intended outcome is not a large one-time event. It is the establishment of a small, active and locally connected Zcash community in Kenya that can continue educating, onboarding and contributing to the ecosystem beyond the grant period.
>
> The project will target approximately:
>
> 150+ people directly reached.
> 20+ practical Zcash onboarding interactions.
> 2–3 university or technology communities.
> 10+ educational content pieces.
> 3+ community or ecosystem relationships.
>
> \### Proposed Problem
>
> 1.Limited understanding of financial privacy
> Many cryptocurrency users understand digital assets but have limited understanding of the privacy implications of publicly visible financial activity.
>
> 2.Limited practical exposure to Zcash
> Some users may have heard about Zcash but have never used a shielded transaction or understood its practical purpose.
>
> 3.Privacy education is often too technical
> Concepts surrounding zero-knowledge technology and financial privacy can be difficult for new users to understand.
>
> 4.Fragmented communities
> Kenya has universities, Web3 communities, developers, creators and digital workers, but these communities are often disconnected from one another.
>
> There is an opportunity to create a focused network that introduces these groups to Zcash through practical and accessible education.
>
> \### Proposed Solution
>
> Proposed Solution
>
> ChainWeb will conduct a four-month community education and practical adoption pilot focused on selected Kenyan communities.
>
> The project will:
>
> 1. Deliver focused privacy education
> Small educational sessions will introduce:
> \-financial privacy
> \-digital financial privacy risks
> \-Zcash
> \-shielded transactions
> \-practical privacy use cases
> \-responsible wallet usage
>
> 2. Provide practical Zcash onboarding
> Interested participants will receive guided demonstrations covering:
> \-obtaining and setting up a Zcash wallet
> \-receiving ZEC
> \-sending shielded transactions
> \-understanding transaction confirmation
> \-basic wallet and key security
>
> The project will not provide investment advice or encourage speculative trading.
>
> 3. Engage selected Kenyan communities
> \-The project will work with approximately 2–3 university, technology, or Web3 communities rather than attempting a large-scale national rollout.
>
> 4. Create accessible educational content
> The project will publish approximately 12–15 educational content pieces covering topics such as:
>
> \-What is financial privacy?
> \-Why financial privacy matters
> \-What makes Zcash different?
> \-Shielded vs. transparent transactions
> \-How Zcash wallets work
> \-Basic Zcash privacy concepts
> \-Practical privacy scenarios
> \-Common misconceptions about Zcash
> \-Basic security considerations.
>
> 5. Collect community feedback
>
> Participants will be asked about their understanding of financial privacy, their experience with Zcash, the clarity of the educational materials and barriers that may prevent continued usage.
>
> This feedback will inform the final project report and recommendations for future Zcash community activities in Kenya.
>
> \### Solution Format
>
> The solution will be delivered as a four-month community education and practical adoption consisting of:
>
> 1. 3–4 focused community sessions
> 2. 2–3 community partnerships
> 3. Practical Zcash wallet and shielded transaction demonstrations;
> 4. 12–15 educational content pieces
> 5. 4 online community discussions
> 6. Participant feedback and onboarding tracking
> 7. A publicly accessible collection of educational materials
> 8. A final project report documenting outcomes, lessons learned and recommendations.
>
> \### Dependencies
>
> The project depends on:
>
> \-Availability of appropriate Zcash wallets and publicly available Zcash resources
> \-Participation from selected Kenyan technology, university and Web3 communities
> \-Availability of suitable venues or online meeting platforms
> \-Internet connectivity for practical demonstrations
> \-Participation from community members
> \-Access to Zcash ecosystem educational and technical resources; and
> timely project funding.
>
> No new Zcash protocol infrastructure, blockchain network or core wallet is required for the project.
>
> \### Technical Approach
>
> This is primarily a community and ecosystem project rather than a new protocol-development project.
>
> The technical component will focus on helping participants understand and practically use existing Zcash infrastructure.
>
> Activities may include demonstrations of:
> \-Zcash wallets
> \-Shielded addresses and transactions;
> \-Sending and receiving ZEC
> \-Transaction confirmation
> \-Basic transaction privacy concepts
> \-Wallet security and responsible key management
> \-Publicly available Zcash developer and ecosystem resources.
>
> Where appropriate, participants will complete practical exercises using existing Zcash infrastructure.
>
> The project will not modify the Zcash consensus protocol, create a new blockchain, create a new wallet or fork core Zcash software.
>
> Participant information will be kept to the minimum necessary for project reporting. The project will avoid collecting unnecessary personal financial information.
>
> \### Upstream Merge Opportunities

>
> Low participant turnout:
> \-Selected communities may have lower-than-expected participation. The project will therefore work with several communities rather than relying on a single group and will use both in-person and online activities where appropriate.
>
> Limited continued usage after onboarding:
> \-Some participants may complete a wallet demonstration without becoming regular users. The project will measure practical onboarding separately from longer-term usage rather than presenting every participant as an active user.
>
> Technical barriers:
> \-Participants may encounter difficulties with wallets, transactions or understanding privacy concepts. Sessions will include guided demonstrations and simple educational materials.
>
> Community coordination delays:
> \-University or technology community schedules may change. The project will maintain multiple potential community partners and schedule activities in advance.
>
> Limited budget:
> \-Our project deliberately uses a small pilot model rather than expensive large-scale events. Activities will prioritize targeted communities, digital content and reusable materials.
>
> \### Potential Side Effects
>
> The project could unintentionally encourage participants to view Zcash primarily as an investment or speculative asset.
>
> To reduce this risk, the project will emphasize financial privacy, responsible usage, wallet security and practical education, rather than price speculation or investment recommendations.
>
> The project will also avoid collecting unnecessary personal financial information from participants.
>
> \### Success Metrics

We are proposing **Zcash Kenya** , a four-month community initiative aimed at introducing financial privacy and practical Zcash usage to university students, developers, digital workers and Web3 communities in Kenya.

Kenya has one of Africa’s most active digital and technology communities, with widespread use of mobile payments, digital finance, and emerging blockchain technologies. However, financial privacy is still not a major part of most conversations around digital money.

We want to help change that.

Rather than simply introducing people to Zcash through presentations, this project will give participants an opportunity to **understand why financial privacy matters, explore how Zcash provides privacy, and experience the technology themselves.**

Our approach will follow a simple journey:

**Discover Zcash → Understand Privacy → Try Zcash → Use Zcash → Share the Experience**

Over four months, we plan to work with **2–3 university, technology and Web3 communities** across Kenya. We will organize focused educational sessions, online discussions, practical wallet demonstrations, and community activities.

Participants will learn about financial privacy, transparent versus shielded transactions, Zcash wallets, sending and receiving ZEC, basic wallet security, and practical privacy use cases for individuals, digital workers and businesses.

Interested participants will also receive **guided practical onboarding** , allowing them to move from simply hearing about Zcash to actually interacting with the ecosystem.

Alongside the community activities, we will create **12–15 educational resources** designed for people who may have little or no previous understanding of financial privacy or Zcash. These will cover topics such as:

- Why financial privacy matters
- How public blockchain transactions expose financial information
- What makes Zcash different
- Shielded vs. transparent transactions
- How Zcash wallets work
- Practical privacy scenarios
- Common misconceptions about Zcash
- Basic security and responsible wallet usage

Our target is to reach **150+ people directly** , provide practical onboarding to **30+ participants** , and have at least **20 participants complete a guided Zcash exercise**.

We also want the project to leave something behind. Instead of ending when the grant period ends, we aim to establish relationships with local communities, create reusable educational resources, document what we learn, and develop a foundation for continued Zcash community activity in Kenya.

### Why us?

ChainWeb has experience building and supporting Web3 communities in Kenya and has previously participated in blockchain education activities targeting university audiences. One example is our participation in the **ICP Hub Kenya Campus Tour** [CHAINWEB on X: "Last weekend we had an amazing conversation and engagement at the UNIVERSITY OF EMBU all thanks to @icphub\_KE" / X](https://x.com/WebChain254/status/1889332909212840219) , including a University of Embu engagement that reached more than 60 participants.

Our team brings together community leadership, Web3 education, technical development, and hands-on blockchain experience. This gives us the ability to approach Zcash from both the **community and technical sides** while keeping the material accessible to newcomers.

We are intentionally starting with a small focused rather than trying to immediately build a nationwide program. We want to test what works, listen to participants, measure practical engagement and use those lessons to determine how a sustainable Zcash community in Kenya can grow.

We would especially appreciate feedback from the Zcash community on our proposed approach, practical onboarding activities, educational content and ideas for making this more valuable to the wider Zcash ecosystem.
