I agree, and that is exactly what I suggested. A transition plan. Which could very well be the mechanism you suggested, but AFAIK none of the wallets support that.
Maybe a zaddr with a published viewkey so it can be sent txns with alternate lwd server connect info in the memos - so the first time a wallet connects anywhere it can find & cache alternates.
Could repeat every N blocks (10k?) to reduce scan overhead (wallets scan backwards, right?)
Its a fun idea to play with.
@conradoplg I still disagree with the “responsibility” part of running a free server on your own time.
But I’m more than happy to hand over the credentials to the hosting provider.
On a different note, I think ZecWallet has been handed it the ZF. GitHub - ZcashFoundation/zecwallet: A z-address first full node and UI wallet for zcash
Isn’t it their responsibility then?
@ChileBob It’d be cool. However, there are well established p2p discovery protocols that we could use, including the one that zcashd & zebra use.

is up.
If people rely on it, I think there is some degree of responsibility, yes. But that more than solves it.
IIRC ZF funded part of its development and it hosted the code for a while, but it’s not maintained anymore. It was the responsibility of its developer, but I agree ZF shares some of it, in the same sense that ZCG now shares some responsibility for this grant. It would great it ZF requested some continuity plan when they funded ZW, but it didn’t happen, and that’s why I suggested it here and will likely suggest something similar on any infrastructure proposal.
Do you think that once the contract was over, it was still the responsibility of the developer to maintain it?
No? I’m not saying that. It’s the responsibility of the developer to come up with a transition plan in case they stop maintaining it. They could have e.g. relinquished the domain so that someone else could keep maitaining it, or to just point it to another existing server.
They announced the retirement of zecwallet 6 months in advance. During that period, users were encouraged to move to another wallet.
Though I agree that in principle what you asked could have been done, it should have been requested during that time. Now, AFAIK, ZW has reached end of life.
Hi Hanh!
Thank you! We are going to share these servers with the Spanish community.

The status of all the zcash infra servers is available at https://status.zcash-infra.com
The data is refreshed every minute.
Lightwalletd is down it seems atm. At least wallets connected to it are not syncing.
Who can fix? @aiyadt?
