# ZocialWorld — An Open-Source Social World for the Zcash Ecosystem

Hi everyone,

I’ve been working on a project called **ZocialWorld** — an open-source, browser-based social world built around the Zcash ecosystem.

The idea is not to build a traditional game or a token-driven metaverse. The goal is to create a lightweight social space where people in the Zcash ecosystem can meet, discover projects, talk, collaborate, and eventually interact with ZEC in a privacy-conscious way.

## What is ZocialWorld?

Imagine entering a small stylized world where you can:

- walk around with a pseudonymous avatar and nickname
- see and meet other people in the same space
- use nearby text chat and proximity voice
- discover Zcash projects through physical locations and project boards
- visit places such as a Tavern, Builders Lodge and Market Corner
- open project profiles and interact with builders
- eventually support projects with shielded ZEC
- later enter private collaboration spaces, events and community rooms

The goal is to make interaction with the Zcash ecosystem feel more human and spatial, rather than being limited to websites, Discord channels and forum threads.

## Privacy direction

Privacy is an important part of the design.

A user’s wallet address, balance, transaction history, viewing keys or other wallet information should not become part of their public social identity.

The direction we are working toward is:

**social identity ≠ wallet identity**

Wallet connection may eventually unlock participation features, but other users should only receive the minimum information required to know that a participant is eligible to use those features.

Shielded ZEC support is also part of the longer-term architecture.

## Current development status

The project is currently in an **early technical prototype stage**.

We already have work underway around:

- browser-based 3D world
- multiplayer presence
- remote player rendering
- nickname / social identity
- nearby interaction
- proximity voice
- project discovery and project booths
- Zcash wallet architecture

We are currently building the first playable district and improving the visual environment.

> Open-source browser-based social world for the Zcash ecosystem — explore projects, meet builders, and participate in privacy-conscious community experiences.

The public repository is currently intended primarily as a **development and architecture tracking snapshot**.

It does **not yet represent the visual quality or art direction of the final project**.

At this stage, the repo is mainly useful for following the underlying structure and technical progress — multiplayer, social systems, project discovery, privacy architecture, wallet integration work, and the foundations of the world itself.

As the project develops, reviewed updates from the active development branch will continue to be published to the public repository.

The visual world, environment art, custom assets, atmosphere, interiors, and final production layer will be added progressively as those parts become ready for public release.

## Visual direction

_Concept / visual direction — not a screenshot of the current public build._

The image above represents the kind of atmosphere, density, lighting, and world-building direction we want to move toward over time.

The current public build intentionally focuses on the technical foundation first.

The first playable demo is being built using **free and openly licensed assets** wherever possible.

This lets us focus first on proving the important things:

- Is the social-world concept actually enjoyable?
- Do people want to spend time in this environment?
- Is spatial project discovery useful?
- Does this create meaningful interaction between builders and community members?
- Can Zcash-related participation be integrated without turning wallet identity into public identity?

If the concept proves useful and there is real community interest, the next visual phase would move toward a much more original production layer: custom buildings, environment assets, characters, interiors, animations and a stronger Zcash-specific visual identity.

## Development approach

Rather than spending heavily on original environment production before validating the experience, the current plan is:

**1. Build the functioning world**

**2. Release a playable demo**

**3. Gather community feedback**

**4. Refine the product scope**

**5. Upgrade the strongest parts of the experience with original assets and production-quality art**

This way, the project can first validate which parts of the world and social experience are actually useful before committing heavily to final art production.

If the project gains meaningful community interest, ecosystem support or future grants could potentially help accelerate that later production phase.

For now, the priority is to build something tangible, keep development visible, and get it in front of the community.

## What I’d especially like feedback on

I’m particularly interested in hearing what people think about:

- whether a social world like this makes sense for Zcash
- which social features would actually be useful
- what project discovery should look like
- how wallet-gated participation should work without damaging privacy
- which areas or experiences should be prioritized in the first playable version
- whether the community would actually use a shared social space like this

The project is still early enough that community feedback can genuinely influence its direction.

If anyone wants to follow the development, contribute, test future builds, or simply share criticism and ideas, I’d be very interested to hear them.
