I’m a privacy & security professional. I led the team that built Birdcalls.is and The Internet Phone Booth: peer-to-peer, end-to-end encrypted video calling services with fully anonymous call creation & screenshot blocking, apps in both app stores. My next company, Who Technologies, is currently in stealth. We’re focused on identity authentication and quantum-hardened trust graphs for the post-AI-deep-fake world.

I got my start in hackerspaces and other collectivist governance structures devoted to making things. I led the team that put out the first open-source instructions for building affordable bioreactors for citizen science genetic engineering. I helped write the bylaws for Counter Culture Labs, a biohackerspace in San Francisco’s east bay.

These days, I follow ‘lapsed anarchist’ management principles: A leader should put in place good structures, so that people can choose their own path to the shared goal.

While I’m not a privacy maximalist, I think that privacy tech is important for the near-term balance of power.
