before i forget - wanted to say good luck YEC! know i seemed pretty negative in this thread at times, but turns out i’ll have a decent amount of YEC, and wouldn’t mind seeing it do well. nice work getting support from guarda
If anyone wants to play with solo mining I have a stratum server running on testnet - PM me for connection details.
Was reading the latest AMA. For those of us holding out on “claiming” YEC I would ask Howard Loo and the yec team to warn well in advance everywhere he could when some coming technical change to yCash will make it no longer “claimable.” Thanks.
Thanks for the kind words, vgm. It’s pretty damned tiring overhearing people slandering me and assuming bad faith on my part, and it really goes a long way to encourage me to hear that someone out there sees me trying to do what’s right. Thanks.
A forum member asked:
I understand I have to keep my zec in a private wallet so I can export and have access to my private keys. So after the fork do I just export my private zec keys into the Yec wallet to claim?
If a given private key had ZEC associated with it at the time of the fork, when you import that key into YecWallet after the fork, after a rescan, you’ll see the exact same amount of YEC in YecWallet.
Depending on the speed of your computer, the rescan could take anywhere from a couple of hours to a couple of days.
Another option to consider: a number of BIP39 wallet providers have announced support for the fork, including BitPie, Guarda, and Cobo. An updated list is maintained here:
https://www.ycash.xyz/the_fork/#wallets
If you use one of these Bit39 wallets, you won’t have to download the entire blockchain, run the full node YecWallet, and rescan the blockchain after the private key import.
For additional steps to increase security, see this thread:
(However you choose to access your YEC, you do so at your own risk.)
Hello everyone.
I have some ZEC at Bittrex and some at Kraken.
Concerning the upcoming fork:
Do you know whether Bittrex and Kraken are going to support the fork and, for example, deposit an equal amount of YCash in my account, after the fork?
In a different case, should I transfer the ZEC to a local wallet?
All in all, what is the best way to handle it?
Thanks
I understand there is no info concerning kraken and bittrex and that the only three exchanges known to having anounced they will support the fork are: SafeTrade, Hoo, BigONE
I never heard of them before. How trustful are they?
@MrCoffie If any big exchange supports the fork it will be big news, for now only smaller exchanges and few wallets support the fork. I know garda and bitpie wallets are promising to give you equal yec for any zec stored on them. If there are others I cannot recall, but with a rapidly rising list of supporting exchanges I would not be surprised if others jumped on before the fork as well. Best way to keep abreast of new developments in this area is ycash.xyz. I personally don’t know anything about the exchanges you mention. Best way to do the fork is to keep your zec off any kind of exchange and on a wallet you control. Then after the fork (and its best to wait slightly after, so say block height 570,100) migrate your zec to a new address and import your previous address’s private key to yecwallet. YecWallet requires you to have downloaded the full zec blockchain of course as it is a full node. This is the only 100% sure way to “claim” your yec. Everything else is a promise.
Hope this helps answer your questions.
Thanks for all the usefull info. I really appreciate it.
I’m installing right now ZecWallet for windows ( Windows-installer-zecwallet-v0.7.3.msi ) from this link: Releases · ZcashFoundation/zecwallet · GitHub
I take it its safe, right?
Searching in the meanwhile, I see that ZecWallet “is not an official wallet” and I gather that the only official wallet is for Linux? How inconvenient.
Also, searching for BigONE to see whether it’s trustworthy I read that nobody knows who is behind it: “We don’t even know where are the headquarters of BigONE, LLC. Nor does Google.”
Damn. Leaving my ZEC where it is and possibly missing the fork YEC gains is still a valid option for me.
I get an error when trying to run “ZecWallet”: Couldn’t start the embedded zcashd. Cannot troubleshoot it.
I suppose I will need to try a different wallet.
Gee. How can I trust my money to uknown exchanges and wallets that return errors…
@MrCoffie ZecWallet is not the “official” wallet from ECC, but it is fully sponsored by the Zcash Foundation. There is documentation with troubleshooting for any errors you may have: https://docs.zecwallet.co/
And the developer is active here on the forum you can ask them questions: ZecWallet fastsync to improve initial blockchain sync
Alternatively you can also try Zepio wallet, which is also sponsored by the Zcash Foundation: https://zepiowallet.com/
@MrCoffie, both YecWallet and ZecWallet require you to run full nodes, which means you’ll have to download the verify the entire blockchain. If you want to avoid that, you can use these third party wallets that support the fork:
https://www.ycash.xyz/the_fork/#third-party-wallets
Notably, Bitpie and Guarda have been longtime supporters of Zcash. Both have been featured on the ECC’s blog.
The thing is, I don’t have much time for communication and trying to troubleshoot wallet problems. I need to test the wallet with a small amount, before moving more money to it and we are just 4 days ahead.
I’m kind of frustrated. I have the feeling that things range from difficult to vague.
Anyway, I think I will try Guarda, next. And really thanks for trying to help, guys. You are my sole support and we are talking about money.
Btw any idea whether Exodus is going to support the fork? A friend of mine sent his ZEC from the exchange to his Exodus wallet.
Just installed Guarda. Not sure I can trust it since I cannot choose the installation directory, neither the wallet location. They are installed on C when I’d prefere them on a different drive that I can unplug and have my money off line.
I suppose I will try Bitpie next. Why isn’t it featured here, though?
sigh
I’am not aware that exodus ever supported any fork, airdrop whatever and in my opinion the chances are less than minimal they would do with Zcash/Ycash … But better double check. Exodus support is superb and answering within seconds on their live chat.

@MrCoffie, please note, no matter what method you choose, there are risks associated with trying to access your YEC. It is up to each user to weight the risks and benefits and decide for themselves whether they want to try to access their YEC.
You mentioned Bittrex and Kraken, so I assume you store your ZEC at one of those exchanges. There are risks associated with storing your ZEC on a exchange, but there are also risks associated with having custody of your own private keys.
The dilemmas you are facing are similar to those who held BTC prior to the BTC/BCH split, or those who held BCH prior to the BCH/BSV split. For this fork, we’ve tried to reduces at least some of the dilemmas and confusion, by implementing two-way replay protection (thanks to the upgrade mechanism provided by Zcash) and changing the address formats (to make it harder for users to accidentally send ZEC to a YEC address and vice versa).
Bottom line: There is no risk-free way to access your YEC, so if you choose to do so, you do so at your own risk.
@hloo I don’t see how dilemmas and confusion are reduced by changing the address formats since this is something that rather concerns the fork aftermath. Personally, I have the feeling that things are vague and each of us is kind of left alone in the chaotic sea of internet to figure out things himself with a very high possibility of picking insecure vague paths. But anyway, I didn’t come here to argue but rather try to get some pointers as to what is the best way to go.
btw myself I’m still in total confusion and still full of dilemmas as to which way to go.
The world of cryptocurrencies is a total mess, to my opinion.
Eitherway, thanks for taking the time to reply here.
Just put your Zec on Guarda. It was well rated at Zcon1 in the Wallet Panel. If you want YEC, the opportunity is very easy to engage. The benefit of being on a mobile wallet is it will be easy to transfer to an exchange no matter where you are in the case the fork occurs while you are not at your Terminal PC.
