Block explorer + Testnet infrastructure

Hi,

Looks working for me. What blockexplorer server is down (testnet or mainnet)?
What issue are you facing?

If you click on a transaction hash, you get an Internal Server Error.

Hi,

I was able to reproduce the issue. Working on it.

Still broken. Main block explorer.

Hi,

It is up again. Sorry for the delay.
I’ll place some automation to detect OOS.

Hi Cacho,

We hope you are doing well!

Thank you for engaging with the community on your thread. We truly appreciate it!

We are reaching out to you here to follow up on our previous messages regarding ZCG’s request for you to update the community on the status of your grant, ā€œBlock explorer + Testnet infrastructureā€. The community would greatly value an update shared on this thread, even if it’s a note that you are actively working on this project.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hi Everyone,

A quick update on this project:

  • Both testnet and prod blockexplorer have been migrated to Zcashd 6.0.0
  • Minor support to the community about server down.
  • Working on provisioning another pair of servers so that any indexing task will not incur in an OOS.

Regarding pending milestones, I found a bloker related to the rpc availability needed to make the blockexplorer work on zebra. The community is working on the Zaino project that should provide all RPC required by any blockexplorer.

I’ll update the grant soon.

@Cacho Please provide an update on this grant.

Hi all,

During the last year, I’ve supporting the mainnet and testnet instances of the block explorer addressing new Zcashd releases and server issues.
There was some minor downtime (4 reported issues where 2 released to 6.1 and 6.2 releases).

One of the mayor pending requirements is the integration of the NightHawk block explorer with Zebra node. Unfortunately, not all of the required gRPC are available in Zebra for such integration being a mayor blocker. The community is addressing the Zaino project that will actually provide such gRPC but there is no clear ETA yet.

My next steps are (unless you have a better proposal):

  • Follow up with @pacu about the Zaino gRPC availability. Then I will update the gRCP request in NightHawk and commit the changes on the Zcash’s NightHawk repo.
  • Renew the mainnet and testnet grant for another year. If you are thinking on a different path, let me know and I can transfer the domain name to the new supporter.

Other ideas are:

  • I can work on a new Blockchain app (a NightHawk clone in terms of features) based on React.js and Nest.Js framework that will easy the contribution from Web devs.
  • A more radical idea to loop more people to this awesome project is to launch a challenge for the Students (or anyone). The idea is to invite non-zcash contributors to submit their BlockExplorer version. A committee can choose a winner and the price could be a laptop.

I think that you mean Block Explorer

Right! my bad.

I think it would be great to renew the grant to keep the explorer running.

It should be possible to migrate to Zebra+Zaino soon.

Getting a new explorer that is easier to contribute to would be great, but not a big priority in my mind.
