As a long-time user but new contributor I have been thinking a lot about simple ways to iterate upon our funding approaches.
I want to solicit the Zcash community’s feedback on a quick proposal:
- All approved grant proposals could include a shielded Zcash address for community donations
- A community donation period of 30 days could exist for each proposal, before the funding body disburses any grant funding
- Community funds raised are deducted from the grantor’s funding obligation
- The view key to the donation address is shared with the funding body which observes the balance raised by the applicant and announces it publicly prior to funding, perhaps upon each milestone
- Delivery of a milestone could trigger another 30 day opportunity for community funding, further reducing the funding body’s obligation
This would allow us to experiment with community fundraising within the existing framework of grant-based funding, extending our ecosystem’s “runway” during an uncertain time.
People who are excited about a proposal can vote with their ZEC.
I think that all proposals should still be vetted and approved before a donation address can be posted, however. I also am a big believer in retroactive funding, but this experiment would also work for that.
I’m curious to hear your thoughts.
