Based on the recent discussions on a few proposals related to payment gateways and merchants accepting ZEC, I want to propose a coordinated community effort to bring a vendor into the Zcash community: Mullvad VPN.
Why Mullvad?
They are a privacy-focused service.
They already accept crypto (XMR, BTC, BCH)
The Ask
Reach out to Mullvad on all social media channels you have available and ask them to consider ZEC as a payment option.
Get your Zcasher friends that don’t read the forum to reach out to Mullvad as well.
If you already use Mullvad, contact their support and tell them you’d like to pay with ZEC.
If you know someone with a connection to Mullvad, reach out to them directly.
If enough of us do this, and do it repeatedly, we can show the vendor that the demand is there to support their implementation of ZEC as a payment option.
I sent an email to the support contact they provide using their GPG key, and asked them if they’d be open to collaborate to make this happen. let’s see what it brings.
It’s a good strategy, though! One out of 10 times we’ll make it. If anyone has any websites in mind that accept cryptocurrency, let’s present them with Zcash. Let’s try it. When we run out of options, we’ll start over on this list.
I also got a quick boilerplate response that they have no plans to include ZEC.
The key is how many of these messages their customer support or social media manager got.
If they got 3, then we don’t get past customer support. If they got 200, even if they give the boilerplate script to everyone, customer support will mention this to managers in the company.
I do think we need to start making this type of outreach a regular thing because we need to start mobilizing as a community to achieve these goals, we need more and more people to join. When the ProtonMail thing was in the works, even though the community had a direct communication line with them, there was less than a dozen votes for adding ZEC as payment in their feature request tracker.
What vendors need to see is that there are many Zcashers willing to pay with ZEC to consider it.
