Grant Application - Incremental Contributions to the ZCash ecosystem

Hello everyone! I’m Chino, I’m an applied cryptographer from eryx. Eryx is a worker-owned labor cooperative with almost 15 years of experience solving complex problems involving mathematics and software development. We have a solid background in math and computer science. Our team has extensive experience in blockchain development, cryptography, and privacy-focused protocols. We also have many years of experience in building and maintaining large-scale software systems, with a strong focus on scalability, reliability, and long-term maintainability.

We have solid experience writing cryptography primitives, such as hash functions, digital signatures and elliptic curve operations in ZK circuits. The team has also worked on Plonky2 backend for Aztec’s Noir, funded by the Ethereum Foundation, which involved writing several circuit gadgets in Plonky2 that were needed to make it fully compatible with all of Noir features.

We just submitted a grant proposal, and we are really excited to start contributing to the community. Any feedback is welcome and appreciated. Thank you!

Thank you for submitting your proposal. After careful consideration by the ZCG and a period for community comments on the forum, the committee has decided not to advance this proposal.

We genuinely appreciate the work and dedication you put into your application and hope you’ll continue to participate and contribute to the Zcash community.

Hi everyone,

First of all, we’d like to thank the committee members who took the time to review our proposal and share feedback in your meeting minute. We appreciate the input and understand the point some of the committee members raised about building reputation and get to know the project through direct open-source contributions before submitting a grant.
Based on this feedback, we’ve decided focus on contributing to librustzcash directly. We will spend some time getting more involved with the codebase, fixing issues, and participating in the development process. Then we could submit a new proposal in the future.

We are already working on some issues from the library, following the ZCash contribution guidelines.
We’re looking forward to continuing to contribute and becoming more involved in the Zcash ecosystem. Thanks again for the feedback and for maintaining such an active and thoughtful community.
