Grant Application - Open Light Nodes: Independent Zcash Light Client Infrastructure for Asia

We have submitted a formal ZCG grant application for Open Light Nodes: independent, community run Zcash light client infrastructure for Asia, built on Zebra plus lightwalletd and Zaino, fully open source and reproducible, complementing existing operators such as zec.rocks.

Grant application (GitHub): Grant Application - Open Light Nodes · Issue #377 · ZcashCommunityGrants/zcashcommunitygrants · GitHub

Phase 1 is already live and self funded:

Background and community feedback: original thread Idea + Detailed Roadmap: Decentralized Multi-Operator Light Client Infrastructure Optimized for Zakura – Seeking Community Feedback Before MVP and draft feedback thread Draft Grant Proposal (feedback wanted): Open Light Nodes — Independent Zcash Light Client Infrastructure for Asia

Update: based on the ZCG committee’s 8/3 feedback, we have rescoped and clarified the proposal.

We reduced the total from $40,000 to $32,000 (compensation from $24,000 to $20,000) and clarified the team’s roles: engineering and operations is front loaded and automates over time, while community and distribution runs throughout. Distribution is the heart of the project: enabling more people across India and Asia to run their own Zcash nodes, so core infrastructure becomes genuinely more distributed. The three-region deliverables are unchanged.

Reconciliation: Startup $6,000 + Milestones $26,000 = $32,000.

Feedback still very welcome. cc @ZcashGrants
