So many potential use cases with this vision of ZSA – things that can actually solve real-world problems far beyond just an NFT standard.
The way this is coordinated on X + the bot behavior in the forums is a huge red flag for me. I’d urge caution from the community

It’s obvious that this has been promoted to the NFT / Airdrop farming groups. Some of these accounts may be real and some are likely duplicates and or bots
Something to keep in mind: This proposal builds NFTs on ZSAs. ZSAs are not available on Zcash mainnet and there is no ETA on when or if they will ever be deployed on mainnet.

He’s given them a free mint of something that is not real. Testnet tokens are not real. It is a plain scam to fleece both his potential users and ZCG.

I just want to add that this type of activity is driven by the NFT and airdrop culture from a few years ago. It is a door that ZSAs are opening, and the Zcash community will have to deal with this from now on.
From my perspective, it is a very different culture from the one that has been cultivated here for so many years.
I don’t know if Zk-SNARKs will utilize ZSAs, but it seems they are also working on something similar to an “NFT,” though they are approaching it differently.

I am pro ZSA’s, but this type of behavior isnt it, imho. I love experimenting but loading hundreds of bots on X to fake interest isnt it.

What you’re seeing is the result of a deliberate marketing and community growth strategy, not automated activity
we’ve been actively introducing ZecBit to NFT-native communities, creators and collectors, and there’s genuine interest in the idea of private ownership for NFTs on Zcash
that naturally brings new users into the ecosystem, including people who had never used the Zcash forum before. many of them are coming from existing crypto and NFT communities rather than from the traditional Zcash audience
our goal is exactly that: bring new users, attention and activity into Zcash, then give those users a reason to stay through the products and infrastructure we’re building
we understand that a sudden increase in new accounts can look unusual from a moderation perspective, but new users discovering Zcash for the first time is a growth signal, not something we think the ecosystem should be afraid of

I read the full proposal carefully. The strongest part, in my opinion, is the clear separation between the ZecBit marketplace and the infrastructure this grant would fund.
ZMD-1, the reference resolver, the deterministic key-less indexer and the shielded payment tooling could remain useful even if ZecBit itself never becomes the dominant marketplace. That is the right way to frame an ecosystem grant.
From a collector’s perspective, the public catalog with private ownership is genuinely interesting. Most NFT platforms expose the entire holder graph by default. Here, collections and traits can remain publicly discoverable while ownership and transfers stay shielded. The full ZMD-1 form also creates a verifiable connection between the asset identity, manifest and content hash instead of asking users to trust whatever image a marketplace displays.
I would still like clarification on a few points.
- How does a collection move from the minimal ZMD-1 form used for reveal mechanics to permanently finalized metadata?
If adding the CID and content hash would change the asset description and therefore the asset identity, will minimal-form assets always depend on continuing issuer signatures? Is there a one-way reveal or freeze mechanism that lets collectors verify the final metadata can no longer be changed?
- What information can the marketplace operator correlate before ZIP 228 enables atomic settlement?
Signature authentication, memo-tag matching and temporary escrow appear necessary today, but they may allow the operator to connect information that is not visible on-chain. It would be valuable to document exactly what the operator can see, what viewing-key scope is used, what is logged and how long payment and authentication data are retained.
- I would strengthen the interoperability requirements in Milestone 1.
The milestone currently requires at least one wallet or tooling team to review ZMD-1, while the broader success metrics mention two independent teams. I think public conformance vectors should also be included for valid metadata, minimal-form assets, incorrect hashes, unavailable CIDs, malicious names and reorganized issuance transactions. If Noir, Zashi, YWallet and independent tooling can run the same tests and produce the same result, ZMD-1 begins to look like an ecosystem standard rather than a marketplace-specific convention.
- The indexer should clearly separate chain-canonical asset data from metadata availability.
Two independent indexers should still agree on the asset catalog even if one IPFS provider temporarily cannot resolve a manifest. Metadata availability and verification status can change, but the chain-derived identity and issuance record should remain deterministic.
Overall, I support the direction of this proposal. I especially appreciate the honest disclosure that ZSA is not on mainnet, ZIP 226/227 may still change and settlement remains escrow-based until ZIP 228. The external security review and the decision not to use volume or floor price as success metrics are also sensible.
Addressing the questions above within the specifications and acceptance criteria would make the proposal considerably stronger.

You can’t. ZSAs are not on the mainnet, it is currently impossible.
