Let’s talk about ASIC mining

I agree, not a particularly good outcome.

Bitmain has done so much for crypto. So many haters cause they are taking your gpu’s away. They are revolutionizing crypto. Don’t hate them because no one else can do it. And. There are about 5-6 other big manufacturers of ASICS.
Without Bitmain, crypto would still be tiny.
Give em some credit, where credit is due

When you alienate the previous support mechanism for the network for the “new shiny” one…asking them to help you out when something goes wrong…probably not going to go very well. I think if that were to actually happen we would be seeing a roll back for the first time on Zcash.

Read further back.
I run 2-13 gpu rigs. 13k sols
12.5k invested
Been mining z cash for almost a full year. And HOLD EVERYRHING. NAAAA. I ain’t got no skin in the game.

think you’re responding to the wrong person. was talking about the cat that made an incredible effortpost, but waited until the very end to mention doesn’t own any zcash.

You got that backwards - You meant to say " Without Crypto, Bitmain wouldn’t exist."

Ethereum and others made it just fine without Bitmain. They are just siphoning profits from everyone else…

My apologies sir. I didn’t realize

They make it cheaper to buy equipment. Cheaper to run the equipment. That’s called progression.
Not sure what else to say. As a miner. That’s what I wait for. Cheaper to buy and cheaper to run.

Ok, lets get to the point.

First things first, i am a miner, mining currently with over 40 GPUs. 12 of them mine zcash. The mining software i use, keep a 5% fee for the developer. As far as i know Bitmain’s software doesn’t have any developer’s fees. So, this is the only disadvantage compared to ASIC (disadvantage for a few greedy people. Some they mod the mining software to bypass the devfee, while some others, like me, they look forward to support the devs).

Ok right into the point. I spent a lot of money obviously, as a lot of you had, some of you, a lot more than me. When i first started studying about mining and its equipment, i came across to ASIC miners and Bitmain. So i went online to look for answers and advice.

One of the answers that i got from a lot of different people was that i should stay away from Bitmain, as they ship used (refurbished to look like new) ASIC miners, without any warranty, and there were a lot of cases where the miner shipped to the customer non functional. I decided to GPU mining for the shake of the brand names.

Bitmain’s founder, Jihan Wu, has been named in various “dark cases” in the past, so he is definitely one of the people i wouldnt trust in cryptospace. But thats just my opinion obviously.

If zcash and ehtereum decide to go with ASIC mining solution, they are more than welcome to do it, if they feel so. I will just run another .bat on my rigs, point to another coin and start mining there. For every problem there is a solution.

Yep a very common design for big ASIC mining sheds. You should check out Ambit Mining on Youtube. They just built a very similar structure (5MW I believe) and have videos showing the construction…along with pretty much how he got his start from a GPU miner with a few rigs into quite the enterprise now.

Nothing you have just stated is even remotely rooted in any facts your just posting hateful garbage at this point and it is not the first post you have done this.

The Zcash trademarks are registered in quite a few countries, including a lot of ones that are the most important to the current cryptocurrency matters.

It is not possible for ASIC implementation of valid POW that claims to be ASIC resistant to be speed up by a factor of x10 in so short a period a time, ZCash as been around for less than 2 years if you know how long it takes to tape out and develop ASIC you would know that some collusion is going on here.

Thank you for coming here to share your input.

There were rumors of an 10,000 sol/s ASIC a year ago, but it couldn’t be confirmed so assume vaporware. The POW scheme is memory hard, which was thought be cost prohibitive due to expense for an ASIC. However, nobody ever said it “couldn’t be done”. You can tape out an ASIC for this in 3-4 months, Bitmain has done so in the past. They have the staff, they have the fab facilities, they have the logistical resources to do it. We all just assume it wouldn’t be worth the expense for them, and apparently we were wrong. That’s the problem though, it’s really inexpensive to make things in China. So obviously they manage to get to their price point.

I think the whole concept of mining needs to be rethought since it appears there is a tendency towards centralization.

Well, this is the internet, A opinion is an opinion. When I wrote it, I didn’t think it was going to get a response. So to me, this was a success. Thanks Krek!

Good luck to you!

Are you playing with words’ game. ? Are you sure you need this? If this is the case, then we should have no better advice than this. All suggestions are meaningless, because you (ZcashCo, you should be able to represent ZcashCo, at least I think so) can deny your own original intention, Can overthrow all.
Very disappointed and sad.

He clearly states what have been said and that it still holds.
How do you manage to interpret it exactly the other way around?

It’s my personal opinion that much of this is a coordinated effort to spread hate and discontent, panicky groups of people dont behave the same, the strength of community can be leveraged against itself if you know which nerves to touch
