N3THACK - hackathon and conference in Nordics

Title:
N3THACK - Nordic web3 hackathon and conference by Web3 Builders

Who are we?
Web3 Builders is the biggest web3 event organizer in Finland. We onboard people and companies from web2 to web3 and provide education and recruitment support. Our ever-growing community (mainly consisting of developers, web3 start- up founders and web3 enthusiasts) is hungry to apply their knowledge to the growing web3 space.

What is N3THACK?

N3thack is a hackathon, wrapped in a conference format. We aim to welcome over 500 people for two days of talks, panels, workshops, networking and, of course, building. We will connect developers, founders and entrepreneurs, blockchain enthusiasts and everyone else interested in the emerging world of web3.

Talks will feature great speakers from all over the world discussing the most important topics of web3: the future of cryptocurrencies, DeFi, social media in web3, crypto regulations, NFTs, practical applications of web3 in real life, the Metaverse and much more. Learn from the best. Workshops will dive right into practicalities, allowing participants to upgrade their programming, digital art, or NFT skills. The Hackathon will gather around 30-40 teams to compete for a prize pool of 100,000 USD.

Where and when?

N3thack is a live event, organized in Helsinki (Finland), the land of Slush, Linux, and Wolt. It will take place in May 2023 over the course of 2 days: Saturday and Sunday. Confirmed days are 26th - 28th of May 2023

For who?

We welcome anyone who gets quiet when hearing someone saying “FTX collapse”. This event is also for Developers, digital artists, students, future start-ups, business leaders, founders, entrepreneurs, industry specialists and enthusiasts.

What is in it for Zcash?

Being our partner will guarantee the best PR coverage for your technology, regardless of whether you are a local company or just planning to grow engagement in the Nordic region. 70% of our community is web3 devs and founders - target audience for Zcash to promote itself. Nordic region of web3 is yet to be conquered!

We will make sure that our partners won’t go home empty handed: we will support you to recruit, sell and market throughout N3thack.

Goals:
1.Gather together 500+ web3 enthusiasts

Around 2/3 of n3thack visitors are planned to be conference visitors. Then 100 - 200 hackathon participants will be mainly reached by involving an already existing community of Finland, as well as communities from nearby countries like Sweden, Norway, Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia. We will also reach out to the rest of Europe, especially UK, Turkey, Portugal, France and Germany - where the web3 community is concentrated the most. However, participants from any country or region are welcome to join.

2.Strengthen the community by creating a true web3 hub in Nordics.

For over half a year Web3 Builders’ main goal was to create a Nordic community. It is moving extremely fast and with n3thack we plan to accelerate it even further. N3thack’s community is there to support web3 builders with whatever is needed, from networking and fundraising to talent acquisition and legal help.

3.Welcome at least 100 women

Web3 Builders co-founders are female. We understand how important it is to include women in the next technological era and support them on each step of the way. That is the reason women’s tickets will be offered at a lower rate.

4.Recruit a minimum of 25% hackathon participants

A Hackathon is a great way to meet people and practice your skills. However, we want it to have a long-lasting effect. Hence, we will create a pool of hackathon participants with their CVs and will assist in matching them with web3 companies looking to hire talent.

Hello there @zerodartz, thanks for your reply!

To answer your questions, yes, this is our website. FYI we are currently building another one for the N3THACK specifically. Here are some more links with our socials:
Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/company/83543832/
Telegram: Telegram: Join Group Chat

And yes, we have done other events, too. We are currently the biggest web3 event organizer in Finland. Also moving to Stockholm, with our first event in April.

Here is a snapshot of our few last events. The biggest event was “Crypto Regulations”, right after the FTX collapse. Events about technology, DAOs and NFTs seems to be the most interesting to our community. Web3 Sauna (event organised for a public organisation owned by the government - Business Finland) and VIP Christmas party were private events, hence, little smaller.

Furthermore, over 70% of our community consist of devs and web3 co-founders, people who are in the web3/crypto 24/7. Recently we published a questionnaire in our community. Over 60% of people answered their interest in our events to be 10 out of 10. The lowest result was 7 out of 10. In the same questionnaire, we see that over 70% of people are interest in our events about “Technology, Blockchain, Development”, over 50% are interested in “Cryptocurrency and investments” and “Business opportunities in web3”.

To add up to your interest in European region, I would like to say that event of this kind (like N3THACK) is the first one here (in Nordics and Baltics). Community is big (Stani - co-founder of Lens and Aave - started his projects here, second Bitcoin develop who worked with Satoshi - Martti Malmi is Finnish and still works here in Finland, the first EUROe coin is from Finland, built by Membrane Finance, Moralis is from Stockholm, etc.), but yet to be conquered, hence, we see a huge potential for Zcash really.

If you can join, the first ZF A/V Club meetup is on Discord this Thursday at 18h UTC. We’ll be talking about the history of DIY media production re: Zcash and that would be a great place to get some ideas of how we can collaborate at N3thack

Hi @ryan.taylor, thanks much! This hour we have another overlapping business session (16.30 - 19.30 Helsinki time). Any idea when the next discord meetup is going to be?

Yes and no worries! We will have meetups on the last Thursday of every month and they will be published online afterwards. We can chat on the club’s Discord anytime!

Great. Thanks!

Could you add some insight into the budget?

Hi @ambimorph. Absolutely!

Find screenshots of our main budget below.

We described that it is crucial for our hackathon to include some conference features, as we want to add on some business perspective to this. Not only codes can code but also learn how to scale their technical creation and bring it to the real world.

We plan to cover speakers food and some portion of venue fees with ticket prices, so in total we are looking at around 200k euros that includes 50k prize pool for hackathon participants.

Some assumptions that we have taken:

  • all speakers will be coming/flying in pro bono (except for the main speaker that we cannot reveal just yet)
  • we will not be cutting costs on food for hackathon participants (we know that this is sometimes a problem when hackathon offers fast food to save some bucks). It is important to offer healthy food and snacks throughout the day to support a sustainable working environment for our participants.
  • we will also not cut costs on bounties/prize pool as one of the main goals of N3THACK is to attract senior and middle level developers (so we need to incentives them  )
  • our milestone for May to attract in-kind sponsors for snacks, SWAG, drinks, etc, to save some costs there.

I hope it clarifies. Let me know if you have more questions.

@Web3builders, thank you for your submission. After consideration from @ZcashGrants , and sufficient time for the community to provide feedback on the forum, the committee has decided to reject this proposal.

The committee appreciates your grant submission efforts and encourages you to continue as an active member of the Zcash community going forward both here on the forum and the below avenues as well if you are interested.
