The Zingoistas I have talked to about Network Privacy are unanimous in their intention to support Nym at every level of our stacks, including Zaino and Zingo.
For those who are unaware Nym offers stronger network privacy guarantees than Tor, including properties that are robust to Global Passive Adversaries. I am convinced that these guarantees are urgently needed, and as far as I can tell, all Zingoistas agree.
There is no question that Zingo Labs will be focused on extending Nym’s benefits across the Zcash stack. To the question “When” the answer is “Soon”.
Can you give a few more details about what operations will be done over nym? My only concern here would be compact block download; I’ve done some experimenting with using the mixnet and while I think it would be great for transaction submission and targeted lightwalletd queries, for compact block download it seems like it might be agonizingly slow.
It seems like you’re ahead of me with experiments, but your results match my expectations.
Basically I think we should use Nym everywhere that it’s feasible and TOR everywhere TOR is feasible, and Nym is not.
(Also, I haven’t yet worked through the traffic analysis implications of moving to tachyon..)
If you need a guarantee of in-order delivery of packets on certain timescales… then Nym (at least in the modes of operation that are most private) isn’t great.
