Hi, just as a clarifying note - the recently announced RPGFDrop includes contributors to Zcash and ZK-related repositories on GitHub (which is public information anyways), as well as other categories, but it does not include ZEC holders - we must do the shielded airdrop separately, because we need to figure out what method would be best for the Zcash community (and preservation of privacy) first! (hence this thread)

The RPGFDrop is conducted by the Anoma Foundation (i.e., we control the website, and the submissions will go in our genesis block proposal). Because of this, we must impose certain restrictions in accordance with the laws to which our organization is subject. Whether those laws are just or not is a decision for citizens to make - I do not personally agree with many of them, but acting in accordance with the law is critical for our ability to continue to develop privacy-preserving technology in public.
The shielded airdrop will not necessarily be conducted this way; more likely it will be conducted by the Namada community/chain, and what transactions are accepted on the chain is a decision made by Namada validators, not by the Anoma Foundation or by us as developers (so I cannot directly answer your question, but you could perhaps see what similar on-chain airdrops have been like in the past as a historical data point). Depending on how the Foundation is involved, our actions specifically may be restricted in some ways, but I canāt say exactly how, as these laws also change over time.

Our plan remains the same - to include all ZEC, both shielded and unshielded. I have been referring to the Zcash airdrop as the āshielded airdropā to distinguish it from this RPGFDrop, but we still plan to include transparent ZEC.

When considering that 90% of all ZEC are in the transparent pool, and God knows, probably 80% of those are held in CEX custodyā¦
Are your teams actively communicating with CEX leaders at Coinbase, Binance, Kraken, Gemini, Kucoin, etc to get some assurances that theyāll claim & distribute (respectively) the transparent ZEC airdrop Namada tokens?
When viewing the ecosystem as a whole, and considering the transparency context, where those ZEC investors are a 90% majority; it seems that they deserve the most focus, to be fairly airdropped, rather than the small 10% minority of shielded ZEC owners.
Or we use this opportunity and get as much ZEC as possible off exchanges. Make CEXs prove their reserves & make MMs close all net-negative positions they have using borrowed customer funds.
This would be a perfect incentive to get users to voluntarily opt-into self-custody and get rewarded.
Iād go as far as to suggest to actively exclude any ZEC sitting on exchanges from the airdrop.
Thereād of course need to be a 1 to 4 week notice period, allowing everyone to slowly but surely get comfortable managing their private keys and withdraw from exchanges.
id say everyone deserves to be airdropped and the ones in the shielded pool more so, we are actually committed to the real game here by being the few who use zcash as it should be used.
