I have a wallet.dat file that I exported in June 2019, but I am having trouble getting zecwallet.Fullnode.1.8.7 and zecwallet.Lite.1.8.8 to work because they are not connected to the network.
How can I get my zec out.
I can’t see the wallet.dat file because it is garbled when I open it in my editor.
Hi @daazecese , since zecwallet is no longer maintained by it’s developer you will need to use another wallet like Ywallet, Zingo, Zenith, or eZcash.
@Autotunafish may know of another method, but I believe since it’s a wallet.dat file whatever wallet you choose will have to be a full node.
Yes, the wallet.dat file is from the zcashd full node. Syncing a zcashd node with your wallet.dat in the data directory is the most straightforward way but requires actually running a full node which requires a bit of disk and to download and verify over 280GB of block data. But, if you’ve got the space then that should work.
Other potential options but are currently in development (caution):
Zmigrate is made to extract funds from wallet.dat files. This comes from ZExCavator (probably the one you want) and ZeWiF.
Zallet is the replacement for the zcashd internal wallet but it doesn’t describe using that particular file so stay tuned there.

@Autotunafish
Thank you.
I will try the full node wallet various ways.
How do you post without replying as a new member? Thanks
You can’t create new topics until you reach trust level 1. You gain trust levels by time spent on the forum and engaging in conversations. Unless you are posting a Zcash related grant application or project then I can manually bump your trust level.
I fulfilled the requirements for trust level 1 but still can’t post.
My goal is to make a post asking for advice relating to setting up a light wallet / node for a project I am working on. I want to facilitate discussion on that post however, since it isn’t really relevant on this thread. Thanks!
Should be fixed now @Jax
Thank you!
Hello, I’m Ready Mouse. I’m always ready for adventure and cheese, both of those require the freedom to transact privately. I don’t want the overlords to know my travel plans, nor my annual cheese consumption. Cheers!
Hi there @Shawn, thank you for answering this question. It is the same one I had.
I just created my account on this forum and wanted to quickly introduce myself.
I’ve been at the intersection of freedom tech and numerous marginalized community organizations for most of my life. I work closely with a number of community organizations supporting people at high risk for surveillance and debanking. I’ve recently been spurred to lead workshops on financial independence and would love to educate my communities and friends on safer ways to transact in order to escape the fiat system and utilize Zcash more.
To this end I’d like to post a message in the Grants category and appeal to this community for assistance.
I’m also happy to discuss some more detail with you first about this if you’d like.
Thanks so much for your moderation efforts.
Best,

Hii Shawn @Shawn
Squirrel asked me to request for Zcash’s user data
I need it to complete my research article on “Tracking Early On-chain & Social Signals for Zcash”
I also need charts that show the data
What kind of data are you looking for? If you are looking for forum data you can see general insights on:
https://forum.zcashcommunity.com/about
If you are looking for something more detailed like number of pageviews I may be able to show that, but if you want something specific like registrations or regions of visitors I will not be able to provide that due to privacy concerns.
An aspect of my article covers community, adoption and development in which the Zcash community hub highlighted a surge of grassroots excitement and how the community engagement jumped by 12% after the launch of Zashi 2.0
I need the exact user data for that @Shawn
Since Zashi 2.0 was released 4/28 here is a chart covering 4/9 to 5/9 2025
You can see an uptick of daily signups around the 28-30th but overall pageviews were normal.
Thank you so much
Hi everyone, I’m Ola
I’ve been learning by experimenting hands-on with Zcash — setting up nodes, wallets, unified addresses, testnet setups, and the quirks of syncing, sending, and tracking transaction and how strong privacy works in practice. It’s been a rewarding (and sometimes puzzling!) journey of trial, error, and discovery.
I’m particularly interested in:
- Hands-on experimentation with ZEC transactions (both mainnet and testnet).
- Understanding how Zcash’s shielded tech stacks works under the hood.
- Exploring how ZEC can be useful in real-world contexts, especially in regions like Global south (Nigeria) where I live.
Looking forward to learning from you all and sharing notes from what I discover along the way.
