What's the status with Zcash staking?

I understand this was discussed some time ago. What’s the status? Is it still moving forward/ in development, or was the idea scrapped?

One thing I was wondering about is KYC / AML compatibility, with the upcoming ZEC staking / validation.

For people following the instructions of centralized exchanges so their KYC/AML status is not compromised, will it be possible for them to stake / nominate directly on-chain, or will they only have the choice to stake through their CEX of choice?

To be more clear, as an example, today one can stake their ETH tokens on a CEX or they can stake / validate themselves directly on Ethereum. If they ever stake directly on Ethereum, they can go back to their CEX of choice at any point in time given a quick audit will observe that the tokens have just done a round trip.

I am curious because I understand the “viewing keys” are probably a solution to that problem, but I don’t know of any exchange that has that implemented. We should be careful not to push our stakeholders into the hands of CEXs, it’s hard enough to train them to self custody.
