ZODL is concluding support for the original MIT-licensed Zcash Android and Swift Wallet SDKs as development continues in the ZODL SDKs under AGPL-3.0-only.
Version 4.0.0 is the final planned release of the original SDKs. Support will end with the activation of NU7, currently expected on November 5th 2026.
What this means for developers
Previously released versions of the Zcash SDKs remain available under the MIT license. Developers may continue using and independently maintaining that code, but these repositories will no longer receive updates or support from ZODL after NU7 activates on mainnet at height 3543405.
Ongoing development will take place in the ZODL Android and Swift Wallet SDKs, alongside ZODL Slipstream, under AGPL-3.0-only.
This licensing approach keeps the SDKs open source while requiring applications incorporating them to comply with the AGPL’s source-sharing obligations. Teams working with ZODL may also arrange separate commercial licensing where appropriate.
