March 2025
Hello! This is the grant update for March 2025. At risk of sounding repetitive I’d like to extend my deepest appreciation and gratitude to all the Zcash teams I collaborate with. You are the real champions. Thank you!
Executive summary
March has been an atypical month for the Zcash development community given two major events happened during this month: ZconVI and Zcash Dev Summit + ZkWeek in Sofia Bulgaria where many members of the different Zcash dev teams attended, participated and organized them. Besides all that disrupting the regular operations of the different teams, work progressed on all fronts and great collaboration resulted from these events. ZecDev Nextra blog hosting the Zcash Z3 dashboard and its CI deployment integration will allow contributors to add content to that blog by sending PRs to that repository which on approval get automatically published on the static site. Speaking of websites, ECC, ZF, Zingo and myself agreed on forking the Zcash Explorer from NightHawk’s repository to the Zcash organization for a collective “best-effort” maintenance and integration with Zaino and Zebra. In the ecosystem front, communication with Ledger on solving their wallet issues that triggered on NU6 but actually originate on their lack of proper support of NU5 is ongoing where community members have provided logs to Ledger developers for further debugging of their software stack problems towards a remediation of the current situation. Although Zashi has recently released a version that can restore funds of a Ledger wallet, restoring from seed may not be appropriate for people holding other assets than ZEC on their HW wallets. Zcash x NEAR hackathon ended on March 30th for which I provided support for participants and will be judging submissions with NEAR DevRels. On the development front, Least Authority finished their initial report of the ZIP-321 Kotlin and Swift library audit where no critical issues were found but there are a number of changes suggested to enforce correctness of the implementation that are currently being worked on.
