Hello! Everyone! This is the monthly report of the Developer Relations Engineer Grant corresponding to September 2024
As we agreed with ZCG at the beginning of this grant, as Developer Relations Engineer I would focus the first three months on these areas: Zcashd Deprecation, TEX address parsing support on exchanges and wallets last mile, NU6 rollout. Support the Core Devs and other ecosystem actors as needed, continue working on a path forward to get Ledger Hardware wallet support to the finish line in collaboration with Zondax, Zingo and others.
Executive Summary
In terms of Zcashd deprecation, I started tracking ongoing work and articulating with different teams of the ecosystem to look for possible ways to increment the overall development capacity with existing grantees’ contributions. For this I created GitHub Boards to encourage more progress visibility. That led to ChainSafe working on InMemory wallet. Also collaborated with ZIngoLabs estimate and plan work that is now known as Zaino
Ecosystem Outreach for TEX addresses is still ongoing and we are actively in contact with partners like Coinbase, Gemini and Trust Wallet. On the shielded wallet side of things, Zingo is targeting support for the first half of October, EDGE end of October. Unstoppable is undergoing other heavy work and will prioritize this for the end of Q4 2024. NU6 is progressing and we are being reported issues with testnet that we are troubleshooting in the RD zcashd channel… I’m in contact with @cacho from the Testnet Infra grant who is going to provide input on the issues he is seeing on his testnet infra.
Development wise, FROST-UniFFI-SDK now supports frost-core 2.0.0-rc.0 which has improved development ergonomics and interop with better serialization API. Special thanks to the FROST team for incorporating community feedback on these new APIs. Speaking of, the FROST Team and myself met the StackWallet Developer, the first Bitcoin FROST Wallet and got a lot of feedback from their experience.
Zondax <> Zingo. Established communications with @aihnoa from Zondax to collaborate on the port I’m doing of their ZecWallet-CLI and Lite implementation of Ledger Support into Zingo that you saw on the previous grant. We hope that we can have a two-way channel open to collaborate on this ongoing effort of having a fully functional transparent and shielded Zcash ledger hardware wallet that we can all rely on.
Last but not least ZecDev was born! Also, I haven’t forgotten the “fixed tasks” of every month. You can see those in the corresponding section of the Extended report which is the next post.
