It’s interesting that our interpretation of this interjection are completely different. Honestly, the only reaction that’s important here is from @zooko and he’s not chiming in at all.
This isn’t a discussion about individual perceptions. My suggestion is based on common etiquette across all professional realms. Physically interrupting any speaker, let alone a speaker as prominent as Zooko nor for something trivial like a term used, is a flagrant foul. Whether Zooko personally takes offense or not is beyond the point.
Have a look into Madea Benjamin’s career of disruption, for other examples of how to break etiquette within the realm of professional speaking.
I will. Thanks for the tip.
Here is the Intro to LTX 2023 which happened the same weekend. These are your target superfans and the same demo.
This video is behind a paywall normally but I got permission to share it with you for EDU use.
While I think the LTX team could have practiced their lines more and not needed lists the differences between the intros of LTX and ZCON are pretty sharp yet the demographic is the same. To me, this is a major red flag.
Look at the excitement level of the LTX team vs the ZCON team. Look at the interactions with the attendants and engagement, I’d even try to extend the engagement to the virtual viewers too, it’s 2023 that should be standard. LTX is entertaining enough to connect with viewers and keep people at least someone engaged. Their “mistakes” are funny and match their personas.
