ZeWIF: First Look at Zmigrate

Blockchain Commons & Zingo Labs are continuing forward with the ZeWIF (Zcash extensible Wallet Interchange Format) project. In February, much of that work has focused on the zmigrate crate. By importing real data, we’re giving the specification a real-world foundation. Zcashd wallets are now fully importing. The next step is going to be a leap over to Zingo (and by extension zecwallet), and that’s what’s going to allow us to start abstracting the format itself.

The zmigrate repo is here:

Wolf McNally also overviewed the crate at a meeting today, and that video is now on Youtube:

We would love your help to make the ZeWIF spec as widely usable as possible.

If you have a Zcashd wallet, you can help us out by testing it out in zmigrate and letting us know if you got the result of everything being correctly read (yay!) or errors (boo!). Feel free to respond here or file an Issue on the zmigrate repo.

If you have a zeroed-out wallet for another wallet app, we would love to get that for testing!

We held another meeting last Friday as we work to make sure we have the Zcash wallet abstraction right:
