Zcash governance is entering a new phase with the first shielded coinholder polling feature built directly into Zodl. ZEC holders can now participate in coinholder votes and polls using shielded ZEC held in the ecosystem’s most trusted wallet, including the funds secured by Keystone hardware wallet with votes reviewed and signed on-device.
This first Beta release, built in collaboration between ZODL and @zkDragon’s Valar team, will be used in the upcoming NU7 coinholder poll and marks an important milestone in the evolution of Zcash ecosystem governance.
Why This Matters
Over the last couple of years, Zcash has moved toward broader community participation in governance and development funding discussions. More recently, conversations around Network Upgrade 7 (NU7) and future funding models highlighted the need for better ways for coinholders to express sentiment and participate in governance.
Coinholder polling is still a very new process within the Zcash ecosystem, and until now, participating has often meant relying on clunky external workflows and unfamiliar tools that required moving funds around.
This Zodl release changes that.
How It Works
- Open Settings in Zodl or Keystone.
- Choose “Beta: Coinholder Polling” to browse active polls.
- Read proposals and linked ZIPs before voting.
- Submit shielded votes.
- Track open, completed, and closed polls in one place.
- Votes are private. Your funds never leave your wallet.
Important: Transfer Funds Before June 1st.
To participate in the upcoming NU7 coinholder poll using Zodl Coinholder Polling, your ZEC must already be inside Zodl or Keystone by June 1, 11:59 PM UTC . Funds transferred after the cutoff will not be eligible for participation in the poll.
Polling opens on June 10 and closes on June 24 at 8:00 PM UTC. Final results will be published by June 29.
