To be clear, the community is looking for candidates with a certain set of qualifications, correct? Are the requirements posted somewhere? We’d be better off freezing the funds than just filling the seats.

I feel like the election will be canceled and funds halted until a plan is developed.
not enough candidates to choose from and we shouldn’t just choose the only people that apply.
How are we gonna do a Q&A when we don’t have any candidates to talk to?

Welcome @Autotunafish ! I have added your candidate post to the top of this thread and added you to the ZOMG-candidate group.
Hello! I’d like to announce my candidacy for the Zcash Open Major Grants committee. I take the Mission to heart and have been very committed to following the project since I found out about it in 2017. I’m a fairly driven individual when I want to be, I try to keep a pretty good familiarity with the goings-on here and I push hard for the community (I think so anyways). I’m reasonably intelligent, can draw my own conclusions and am capable of focused research.
Good luck!

Welcome @BrunchTime ! I have added your candidate post to the top of this thread and added you to the ZOMG-candidate group.
Hey. Honored to be nominated - I will gladly accept, and if elected do my darnedest to make ZEC and ZOMG grow and shape the world for the better.
About me - I’m a web developer. I’m a ZOMG grant recipient (two times) I built ZECpages and have a ton of fun seeing people post there, finding out what new features they want, sometimes building those features. I have a normie senior dev job where I p much just crush it for 7 hrs a day. I do 300 pushups a day. I play piano; I’m really into William By…

Welcome @hanh ! I have added your candidate post to the top of this thread and added you to the ZOMG-candidate group.
I’d like to announce my candidacy for ZOMG.
My goal, if elected, is to
vet grants more thoroughly from a technical and implementation point of view,
request more detailed planning and deliverables
make payment dependent on measurable exit criteria (agreed between both parties beforehand)
have more accountability and transparency from both the ZOMG and the grantees
offer bounties for work related to zcash ecosystem improvements
Good luck!

Welcome @aquietinvestor ! I have added your candidate post to the top of this thread and added you to the ZOMG-candidate group.
Introduction
My name is Jason McGee (aka aquietinvestor). I am a long time ZEC holder and active member of the Zcash community. I have a strong background in finance, accounting, and management. I am the former Head of Operations for a well-known hedge fund in NYC where I managed a team responsible for all daily activities related to trading operations and fund accounting.
Working in this capacity, I designed and implemented a framework of policies, procedures, and controls to create effici…

@lawzec has withdrawn thier candidacy for ZOMG :
It hasn’t been fun watching memes and jpegs become 10x worth more than a better bitcoin.
I’m not trying to blow smoke here, or seek forgiveness for some crass statements I’ve made here. And frankly I don’t care about being elected to ZIP1014/MGRC/ZOMG. I only first got involved from being a lurker to protect value of ZEC.
Let me explain again why Zcash has my forever interest. If you truly believe that bitcoin has become a global money/digital gold/network/metanorm, Zcash offers a chance of …
I’ll close the thread and withdraw you from the candidates group.

@tm3k has withdrawn thier candidacy.
Withdrawing my candidacy effective immediately.
I regret rushing to submit my application.
After sitting on it for a while and thinking, I simply don’t see the ZOMG working the way it is currently designed. It either needs to be completely independent or let ZF take over again and hire support staff until we form a DAO.
The problem here is people, we are the weak link in the system.
Additionally, I think that other candidates here may be better suited for the role.
Let me be honest. Zcash h…

Welcome @wobbzz ! I have added your candidate post to the top of this thread and added you to the ZOMG-candidate group.
Hello. I am running for ZOMG because I believe in the fundamental mission of Zcash, which I believe is to provide privacy preserving, decentralized financial freedom and speech for all.
Where did I come from and who am I? → Zcash came on my radar in 2017/2018 due to hobbyist interest in mining bitcoin and other alt coins as far back as 2013. I knew early on that privacy was important for this space and took an interest in other privacy related projects that ultimately withered away due to lack …

Welcome @Souptacular ! I have added your candidate post to the top of this thread and added you to the ZOMG-candidate group.
Hello all!
I am announcing that I am re-running as a candidate for ZOMG. I served on the first ZOMG for the past year and consider that invaluable experience to help usher in a new group of ZOMG participants.
The past year for ZOMG has had both successes and failures. We have funded many projects who have produced net positive returns for Zcash. I think there is definitely issues that need to be resolved and I acknowledge that it is going to take a lot of communication and community effort to …

Welcome @copernicus the final candidate to run for a spot on ZOMG!
Hi All. I am happy and honored to have the ability to run for ZOMG. I am running because I believe Zcash is fundamentally the most important technology of our time and should be distributed to the world in order to preserve freedom and empower individual liberties. ZOMG is the vehicle by which we can fund external projects for the good of the Zcash ecosystem and on-ramp new users.
What I plan to work on for the 20 hours:
-Evaluate and vet grants from a usability and consumer user experience pe…

Please Note!
ZOMG Elections have been officially postponed for 90 days:
After discussions with multiple stakeholders, the ZF board has approved a plan to postpone the ZOMG elections for 90 days in order to ensure all voices are heard as we move forward with improving and growing the community’s major grants work. In an effort to communicate quickly and transparently, I can only share tentative plan details at this time. Full details will be provided once we’ve had the time and perspective required to put dates to activities.
ZF will work with ECC to reschedule th…

hopefully the call for candidates is reopened/ reevaluated during this time. This group holds a great deal of power in shaping the future of zcash and if the zomg’s role or purpose changes, being tied to 8 choices that applied under different terms would be tough to get behind.

I would appreciate these being reopened, which may be a requirement based on how candidates respond to the reorganization and requirements. The deadline was supposed to enable a proper amount of time between candidacy and action. With every event requiring a firm list of candidates being delayed, there seems no reason for them to remain closed, other to keep the list down to those who were sure they wanted to from when the original announcement was made. That may be valuable to some degree though…

Thanks for the update!
I think many would appreciate if the (self-)nomination window was reopened as well. For example, I am contemplating running for ZOMG if that’s still possible.
