Ambimorph for ZCG (December 2024)

Yes, I am running for re-election to ZCG! After two years I have gotten to know the current grant process, its strengths and weaknesses, and I would love to continue be a part of the transition to FPF and defining the new funding structure that we have started.

It has been my view that adoption is the most important goal for Zcash. I still think adoption is crucial, and so I’m excited about the technical progress that’s been made towards, for example, hardware wallets, bridges, decentralized exchanges, and ZSA’s. I like ECC’s wallet and spending focus, and the Zebra transition is also critical.

But my attention has moved towards optimizations in governance, decentralization, and ZCG itself. My primary interest is in getting as much use as we can from coin weighted voting for decision making for grants. This does not mean a system without dedicated people. In my view, in order to make coin voting work, the community will still need a committee to review proposals and work with teams for advocacy and clarity. Ecosystem roles like developer relations engineer and the security team remain priorities, and reviving community programs is also invaluable.

The past year has been extremely challenging with ZEC prices putting the treasury in jeopardy. This put particular stress on the system of continuous grants, and I have been advocating for quarterly decisions like @aquietinvestor has mentioned. This would allow us to allocate funds with a better understanding of what other grants might have to be turned down whenever we give a yes. In addition to that, I would like to see a program of retroactive grants that reward innovative passion projects. I hope that this would help incentivize community members taking on the risk of their own proposals and demonstrating value before getting earmarked funds. This would also reduce the burden of evaluation after the fact and therefore aligns better a coin weighted vote.

I think my experience and perspective is an asset to ZCG in this transition period, and would be honoured to serve for another term.
