There’s currently experimental support for clients, if you enable the
hs-pow-full feature when building Arti, the client should
automatically solve PoW challenges when talking to onion services with
PoW enabled. Issue
#1751 in the
Arti issue tracker lists the blockers to stabilization, they are mostly
fairly minor for the client side, the most major is that we currently
don’t limit the amount of CPU that the client might use for doing PoW
solves.
I am currently working on service-side support. We have a fairly
detailed design for
it,
and I am working on implementing it, I don’t have a exact timeline but I
personally am hopeful that experimental support may end up in the next
release :) Issue
#1667 tracks
that.
I will also note that other that PoW, we feel that Arti is ready to host
actual onion services, and we’d love to hear reports from anyone who
gives it a spin! There is some outdated documentation warning against
it, from a time when we didn’t have Vanguard support, but at this point
onion services on Arti should be ready for use for anyone whose usecase
doesn’t require PoW.
