Given a protected note, could we prove with zero-knowledge, that it stemmed from a coinbase transaction? If so, that would give us a way to audit the entire monetary base without ever leaking any privacy.

Enabling full blockchain consistency audit would be a huge improvement of zcash
Zero knowledge enable two parties to end up having consistent balance without others to know. It would be nice if somehow the blockchain whole conistency could be zero-knowledge proven as well…
