This is VERY exciting for me to see. DWeb Camp is an event and community that is very close to my heart.

Zk Av Club would not exist, not in concept nor practice, without DWeb Camp. Full stop.

I’ve been going to DWeb Camp since the very first one in California and it has changed my life completely, for the best. It’s where the club was born and where we did our first in-person experiments that led us to the Recording Station.

I encourage everyone to try to make it to Berlin for this.

Here’s the thread where Zk Av Club is tracking our activities and announcements regarding camp and Berlin Blockchain Week this year:

This is also true about Zk Av Club wrt Zcash :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: In case that wasn’t abundantly clear.

DWeb Camp is exactly the crowd that would get Zcash without needing the pitch. Decentralized web builders already think in terms of user sovereignty and protocol neutrality. Strong venue for wallet demos and ZSA conversations.

Hope ZCG gets a solid team out there.

I keep hearing about DWeb camp, from entirely different people in different social circles! This seems like an awesome opportunity to bond over a week with builders plus the real movers and shakers in the web3 space. From a Toronto friend, to scrappy builders of ETHDenver and even at ETHCC Cannes, people are talking about DWeb. It seems like the place to be this summer.

I’ve been to regional burns (think Burning man, but smaller and in the woods) which was fun and created lasting friendships, but adding the decentralized web3 theme, privacy, coders and builders, this event sounds epic. @fabacab and I are definitely interested in attending.

If you want to know more about DWeb, and how it’s different than Web3, here’s a good article by Mai Ishikawa Sutton about that:

I think this is important to read this in order to understand the DWeb community and the people who contribute there. IMO this should weigh into the very difficult decision that ZCG is making.

Also worth mentioning here: Zk Av Club will cover ticket, camping, and food costs (everything except travel) for anyone who is volunteering at the Recording Station or recording stages with us at DWeb Camp this summer. DM me.

Thanks for sharing the article, it is good to note the differences in events, and respect the culture within. A business suit looks largely out of place at ETHDenver raves, and a Milady meme shirt would garnish judgemental looks in Cannes networking salons.

Like the article author Mai Ishikawa Sutton points out, I use “web3” as “Nowadays, though, Web3 has come to signal something more specific: protocols and platforms that involve blockchain and distributed ledger technologies, including cryptocurrencies.” of which zcash falls under this rough definition.

I kinda wish the author gave a better definition for the use of “DWeb” as I see “While “DWeb” is still one of the terms commonly used in this space, it’s not used nearly as heavily as a marketing buzzword. For many, it’s become more of a general adjective than a word describing a movement or a major shift in the evolution of the Web.”

and then…

”I find “DWeb” to be an incredibly useful umbrella to organize under. It seems to attract people who are not only interested in building a new Web (and many Webs) for the sake of profit, but also for the sake of addressing concrete challenges, especially those faced by the most marginalized communities.”

Personally, my feeling toward zcash seem to fall in both term usage. Zcash is a web3 project involving blockchains/crypto and for me, it’s also a project that can give access to financial services to the marginalized and de-banked populations (as well as normal folks), which is under the DWeb umbrella. The outreach to marginalized communities is the largest reason I volunteer my time to support @fabacab ‘s NYC-based workshops, as well as invest heavily in grassroot marketing. Zcash is tech I want to see in the world.

@fabacab and I have submitted an application to attend, confirmation of receipt from @ZCG? I have included our friend Bee who will be joining us in Chicago for the Exxxotica adult industry conference to teach Zodl wallet usage to sex workers, gig workers, content creators; the very people who are marginalized by society, and often excluded from mainstream banking systems.

DWeb is difficult to define. I think that’s because it’s a whole movement and not just software or protocols. You’re right, it’s very much like Zcash in that way. There’s a lot of alignment between the two ecosystems/communities, in values and contributors. I have no doubt that you and VI would fit right in, have a blast, and represent Zcash well, as you do everywhere you go

DWeb Camp is an event that is co-created by everyone who participates. So as we get closer to the event and proposed sessions and activities roll in, the program begins to take shape.

At this month’s virtual meetup, we’re going to highlight a few of the projects and content tracks you’ll see at Camp this summer.

ZCG is excited to share that we will be funding @squirrel and @Kenzo to represent Zcash at DWeb Camp this year :tada:

We’re looking forward to seeing them engage with aligned communities, share Zcash’s work, and build meaningful connections within the decentralized web ecosystem.

Thank you to everyone who applied, we appreciate the time and thought that went into your submissions.
