Changing of the Guard at ZF

During my ZconVI presentation today, I shared the news that I’m stepping down as ZF ED.

To preempt any speculation or rumours: I am not leaving to take up another role, and there is no rancour or disagreement between the ZF Board and me. I’ve been wanting to have a better work-life balance for a while, and now feels like a good time to step aside.

It’s been a remarkable privilege to work alongside some of the smartest, most dedicated and most principled people I’ve ever met, and I want to thank all of my colleagues across ECC, ZF and the broader Zcash ecosystem for their trust and support over the past 8+ years.

@Alex_ZF is stepping up as interim ED. As anyone who has interacted with him knows, Alex is eminently qualified, and he’ll do a great job. I’ll be supporting him and ZF however I can while the ZF Board recruits a permanent successor.

Longer term, I’ll continue to support ZF and the broader Zcash mission as a community member, and I look forward to being able to speak more… freely, shall we say? :hot_pepper::hot_pepper::hot_pepper:

I want to personally thank Jack for his service to the Zcash Foundation and the Zcash community.

My time with ZF has been during a time of global regulatory hostility to privacy. Over the last two years I have been grateful to be in the foxhole with Jack. He is the ultimate wartime consigliere.

I respect Jack’s candor and his strong commitment to privacy and to the Zcash Foundation.

I am looking for a Game of Thrones reference here, but I won’t say “his watch has ended” because I know how committed he is to Zcash and to financial privacy.

Thank you Jack, for your commitment to Zcash and ZF, which no one in the Zcash community can doubt.

I ask that, as this community continues to grow increasingly decentralized, you remain an independent voice in this community who continues to share your perspective.

thank you dodger.

i wanted to acknowledge that, despite few reservations and disagreements i had with your decisions and statements at times, i think you managed ZF well through the tough times. it might have happened at a cost to some ZEC holders, but it’s likely why the ZF treasury is currently strongest among orgs.

Zebra and FROST are great achievements that will be crucial stepping stones for the future of Zcash and privacy.

while the timing was surprising, i believe this change can bring fresh energy to Zcash. i wish you the best in your future missions.

onward
