Yes I’m using whole integer amounts. Not sure why it worked for you but not me?
where can i find the election url?
Please see the following post:
I tried and tried, tried this is a farce. This coin vote is only for ubergeeks. dont be surprised when millions of money are voted, that means the insiders who know how to use buggy tech were able to do it, surprise, by being zcash insiders steering the vote. This project
What was your issue? Only way to improve is to share experiences
I get your frustration and I am sorry for it. I know the project is almost 10 years old and our governance should be in a much more mature stage right about now. A lot of people are finally understanding our situation is not acceptable and are working towards a change. Please give us all a chance and hopefully you stick around so we can help you participate to the vote and we can get your feedback on it. It’s only the first one we do with shielded zecs, it’ll get much better next round.
I voted.
(Obligatory disclaimer: I personally don’t support coinholder voting. I wanted to experience how the flow works.)
My feedback on the app:
- After inputting the URL and seed phrase, it prompts me to save… something. I have no idea what that is (I guess it’s the election data). It should explain it beforehand
- I have to manually click the “Download blockchain data” button. I imagined it could start running right away, no need to have to click something.
- After it downloaded, it showed “Available Voting Power: 0” (I wasn’t sure I had something since I forgot to refresh my funds). I switched to other tabs in the app and when I went back to “Overview” it suddenly showed my (nonzero) voting power.
- I voted successfully on the first question
- Did the same for the second question, got 0 voting power again, but it didn’t change this time. Tried it again from scratch and it showed 0, but after some seconds it updated to the (nonzero) amount I had. Not sure what changed, maybe I did a copy & paste error the first time? Seems unlikely though.
- It would be nice to have the voting power in the Vote tab, and/or a slider to pick the amount to vote.
Bumps aside, props for getting this ready so fast.
(Edit: also got a core dump after I closed the app)
Thanks for your feed back. This is the first time we have a large election so the voting at 0 is because the app is catching up with the voting blockchain. The download button is only for the Zcash blockchain.
I am thinking of rewriting this voting app at some point.
I had a very similar experience and can share the sentiment.
Overall, I didn’t find it too difficult to participate
One more suggestion:
It would be great if there is an option to split your points (voting power) automatically and equally among different choices in a single step, as well as doing so manually by separating the points and voting individually. In short, a more simplified multiple choice option.
In the current state I voted for one specific option and then I considered that I could’ve split the points instead of going all in on a single choice (ahhh we live and we learn; I will do better next time :))
Would be interesting to know why you do not support it. Sorry if I missed a prior post of yours about this topic.
My feedback on the app (which I’ve tried to observe without my Zcash technical knowledge hat on):
- I tried clicking the URLs, and got a weird page of internal text (that I know was JSON) instead of a page describing the election and the voting process. The URL domain also didn’t resolve to anything useful.
- The Windows app was unsigned, and resulted in the Microsoft “this binary is risky” warning.
- There’s a red hex string at the top of the Overview page. I have no idea what it means.
- The vote data loading process was very smooth.
- I ran into the same problem @conradoplg mentioned: available voting power did not update even when I waited, and I had to guess that switching to a different tab and then back would refresh the UI.
- The voting tab gave me no information about how much voting power I had. I needed to tab repeatedly between tabs to copy-paste numbers.
- The UI informed me I had fractional voting power (NNN.N power), but the vote tab threw an error when I tried to vote with it. I was therefore unable to exercise my full voting power that the app claimed I had.
- There was no confirmation screen after clicking the vote button, and no opportunity to redo a vote once cast. If I had mis-clicked, I could have produced an incorrect vote.
- The voting action itself locked up the UI.
- The voting confirmation was clear.
- The voting history page is sufficiently informative, although the hash and address columns are unexplained. The address column in particular is confusing as it doesn’t contain any Zcash payment addresses (but it does contain strings starting with a z that, given the column heading, could maybe be mistaken by someone as being an actual payment address).
- Needing to re-enter the mnemonic phrase for each question, and needing to vote separately for external and internal funds, was confusing given the lack of in-app documentation or guidance. Reading the guidance in this thread was a requirement to successfully vote, and there was no obvious link to it from the voting app itself.
- The app saved the mnemonic phrase I entered on the first vote, and suggested it to me as an autocomplete option when I started the next vote. This was unexpected and concerning to me.
- When I created an internal election after doing an external election, the voting power went from 0 (after cycling tabs per above) to a value that was the sum of my internal voting power and part of my external voting power. Then when I went to the vote tab, and then back to Overview to copy my voting power, it had shrunk back to just my internal voting power (which I only know is not real voting power disappearing because of my Zcash technical knowledge).
- I just now went back after closing the app, and opened up an external election to “continue” it. The Overview tab is now showing the left over fractional voting power from the corresponding internal election, when previously it showed zero.
- I didn’t use the delegation tab, but I now notice it uses the same address format as the Address column on the voting history tab. If I had tried delegating to one of those addresses, would that correspond to a vote? And if so, would the app have rejected it and told me to vote on the Vote tab?
- (My technical recommendation on this point would be that voting and delegation should never be presented in-app as fungible or having the same addresses, even if under the hood they use the same tech, for the same reason that wallets MUST NOT display wallet-internal addresses in UIs.)
Thanks for your feedback. I think all of it can be fixed in the next version.
